It has been such a help to be able to grab a book and use it during my sessions. I have seen meaningful change with all my students. Learning through literature combats so many inequities. Through accessing language students can learn to ask, advocate for themselves, and become better communicators for their school year and beyond. \r\n\r\nThank you again for your contribution. These tools have quickly become a core part of our daily routine, offering students meaningful opportunities to regulate, explore, and grow.\r\n\r\nThe first time our students saw the sensory table filled with uncooked beans, their eyes widened with excitement. Several students immediately reached in—curiously exploring the texture with their hands, scooping and pouring with tools, and enjoying the calming repetition of movement. It was clear from that moment how important this new resource would be for our classroom.\r\n\r\nWe now use the sensory table every day as part of our academic rotation schedule. After completing a task or managing a challenging demand, students take a break at the sensory table. This helps them self-regulate and transition smoothly between activities, which is especially valuable in our K–1 special education classroom where many students have high sensory needs.\r\n\r\nOne of the most powerful aspects of this resource is the parallel play we see developing. While students may not yet engage directly with each other, they are learning to share space and materials—important social skills they are continuing to build. Watching them calmly work side by side, using the same tools, shows us just how much this space supports both their sensory and social development.\r\n\r\nWe are also excited to be connecting our sensory experiences to our current unit of study. Right now, we're learning about the five senses, and the beans in our sensory bin have given students a hands-on way to explore the sense of touch. They describe how the beans feel—\"hard,\" \"bumpy,\" \"smooth\"—and are learning to use sensory language in real-world contexts.\r\n\r\nThank you for opening this world of exploration and regulation to our students. Your support has made a daily impact, and we look forward to expanding on this work as our students continue to learn and grow.","fullyFundedDate":1743035812983,"projectUrl":"project/sensory-items-for-sensory-learning/9150498/","projectTitle":"Sensory Items for Sensory Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sarah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9874535"},{"teacherId":9874535,"projectId":9007438,"letterContent":"The donation of fidget learning materials, including Pop It 10 frames, Pop It CVC word builders, Pop It 1-100 counting numbers, addition Pop Its, addition fidget spinners, and ABC magnetic tracing boards, has had a significant and transformative impact on the self-contained kindergarten and first-grade special education classroom. These materials provided both sensory support and educational engagement for students with diverse learning needs.\r\n\r\nThe interactive nature of the fidget tools has enhanced focus and concentration for students who often struggle with staying engaged in traditional classroom activities. By incorporating hands-on, tactile learning materials, students were able to practice core academic skills in a more dynamic and enjoyable manner. For instance, the Pop It 10 frames and counting numbers supported students in building foundational math skills, while the CVC word builders facilitated early literacy development.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the sensory components of the materials, such as the fidget spinners and Pop It toys, provided crucial outlets for sensory processing, enabling students to manage frustration and anxiety, which in turn improved their overall classroom behavior and emotional regulation. These tools also encouraged self-regulation, helping students to gain greater independence in their learning processes.\r\n\r\nThe ABC magnetic tracing boards allowed students to develop fine motor skills alongside letter recognition, building their confidence as they practiced writing and identifying letters. These multi-sensory resources have been invaluable in supporting the individualized learning needs of each child, fostering a positive and inclusive classroom environment.\r\n\r\nOverall, this donation project has not only enhanced the academic experiences of the students but has also contributed to their emotional and social growth. The materials have created a more interactive, supportive, and enriching learning environment, allowing students to thrive in their unique educational journeys. We are incredibly grateful for the generosity of the donors, whose contributions have made a lasting difference in the lives of these young learners.","fullyFundedDate":1734838059548,"projectUrl":"project/fidgeting-our-way-through-learning/9007438/","projectTitle":"Fidgeting our way through Learning!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sarah","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9874535"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_48433","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":583,"numTeachers":36,"percentFrplEligible":43,"percentAsian":22,"percentBlack":4,"percentWhite":42,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":20,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":80.3,"schoolId":48433,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodside Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Woodside Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/washington/everett-school-district-2/woodside-elementary-school/48433"}
