The healthy snacks and resources have become an essential tool in the counseling office, helping me address student needs ranging from basic hunger to providing a calm, safe incentive. I use these resources daily in several critical ways. For example, some students come to my office experiencing high anxiety or distress, and simply offering a quick, healthy snack helps ground them and regulate their emotions, allowing them to participate in the conversation. Additionally, I use the snacks as positive incentives for students working on their behavior and academic goals, such as consistent attendance or completing coping skill worksheets. Just last week, a student struggling with school refusal agreed to stay for the full day after we set a goal that included a nutritious snack break in my office; it served as a simple, effective anchor.\r\n\r\nThe students' initial reaction to seeing a dedicated supply of healthy options—granola bars, fruit cups, and bottled water—was one of immediate relief and trust. For many, the ability to discretely access food when they are hungry removes a source of embarrassment or anxiety. One student, who often skips lunch due to social anxiety, expressed genuine gratitude, saying, \"I can actually focus in my afternoon class now.\" Knowing that these materials are available creates an instant connection and a sense of care. It signals to students that their basic needs are important and that the counseling office is a place of comfort and support, which is the foundation of our work together.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, these resources will continue to be integrated into our counseling and emotional wellness programs. Our next steps involve using the snacks as part of a current Mindful Eating group where students learn to recognize hunger cues, practice gratitude, and use eating as a calming, focused activity rather than a rushed necessity. We will also use them to reinforce lessons on self-care and healthy choices during individual check-ins. Your contribution is directly supporting the emotional regulation and physical health of our students, helping them stabilize their bodies so they can focus on achieving their academic and personal goals. We are truly thankful for your generosity and for helping us nourish both the minds and hearts of our students.","fullyFundedDate":1761327908056,"projectUrl":"project/nourishing-minds-growing-hearts/9718342/","projectTitle":"Nourishing Minds, Growing Hearts","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Rahman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8105634_orig.jpg?crop=2268,2268,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1758029248671","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8105634"},{"teacherId":2331694,"projectId":9464906,"letterContent":"First off thank you so much for all the generous donations. These activities have transformed our lessons into fun, interactive experiences where every student is engaged and excited to participate.\r\n\r\nOne particularly special moment was during our sentence-building center. Students used the word tiles to create silly, creative sentences that not only made them laugh but also reinforced grammar and reading comprehension skills. The big whiteboard, fidget toys, galaxy slime, and magnetic tiles have already made such a positive impact on my students. These resources are not only helping to keep my students calm and engaged, but they're also creating a more interactive and dynamic learning environment. The whiteboard, in particular, has become a go-to tool for brainstorming, problem-solving, and collaborating during lessons. My students love the opportunity to come up to the board and contribute their ideas, and it has definitely increased their participation and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nThe fidget toys and magnetic tiles have been a game-changer for helping my students focus and manage their energy throughout the day. One moment that stands out is during our math project, where students used the magnetic tiles to create geometric shapes and patterns. The hands-on experience really helped solidify their understanding of spatial relationships, and the fidget toys allowed them to stay calm and concentrated while working. When my students first saw the new materials, their eyes lit up! They were so excited to have such fun and engaging tools to use, and their reactions ranged from \"Wow, this is awesome!\" to \"Can we use these every day?\" Their enthusiasm has been infectious, and it's clear that these resources are making learning more enjoyable and accessible.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we are diving into a new science unit where we will be using the magnetic tiles to explore structures and simple engineering concepts. Students will work in groups to design and build their own structures, and they'll be able to use the new materials to help visualize their ideas.
