Younger students enjoyed following along with interactive dance and exercise videos that built coordination and confidence. Older students learned how to track their steps, heart rate, and progress toward fitness goals. The resources I received for small groups have been incredibly helpful in supporting student progress, allowing me to provide more targeted instruction that meets the needs of every learner. The whiteboards, in particular, have become an essential tool—students are much more engaged when they can write, erase, and actively participate in lessons. They serve as a valuable visual aid, especially when students are practicing new skills or reviewing concepts, and they make it easier for me to quickly check for understanding.\r\n\r\nOverall, these resources have truly empowered me to lead my small groups in a way that feels both more effective and enjoyable, which benefits each and every student. The flexibility they offer has allowed me to tailor instruction to meet different needs and create a more engaging learning experience. At the same time, I've seen students gain confidence as they see their progress right away. When we got our supplies we started a clay project where students are using the new clay to create 3D models for class talking pieces. Talking pieces are used as symbols or signs to the class that 1 student or the teacher has the floor to speak and if the talk piece is not in your hand then you should be quite/ respectful when others are speaking. This project helped me teach students how to mold clay and share with them different cly methods like coiling. For example, one student added color to their clay by using the markers to add vibrant details and colors, while others incorporated texture using the clay tools and found objects in the classroom. This project has truly sparked their imagination and allowed them to blend different materials in exciting ways.\r\nWhen my students first saw the new markers, clay, rulers, and paint palettes, they were ecstatic. They couldn't wait to get their hands on the supplies and immediately started planning their projects. One student stated that , \"These markers are so much better than the old ones!\" and another said, \"I love having a chance to use new materials !\" The next step for our projects for the future is to start using different mediums in one composition like the artist Basquiat and exploring new artists and techniques. Once their works are complete, they will present their artwork to the class, explaining their creative process and the inspiration behind their work. This not only provides an opportunity to practice their art techniques but also encourages them to articulate their artistic choices and share their creations with peers. My mission is to teach my students all of the techniques, art history and art terminology that I didn't know until I got to college so that they can be ahead and not feel left out when they hear art terms or if they're asked about visual artists.","fullyFundedDate":1727381467822,"projectUrl":"project/arts-and-crafts-with-mst/8815292/","projectTitle":"Arts And Crafts With MS.T","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Thomas","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9774786"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_5385","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":167,"numTeachers":10,"percentFrplEligible":90,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":96,"percentWhite":0,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":2,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"16.7:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":68.5,"schoolId":5385,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Woodlawn Community School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Woodlawn Community School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/illinois/chicago-public-school-district-299/woodlawn-community-school/5385"}
