Many donors are familiar with technology at home, but may not see how powerful it can be when used intentionally in a setting. The iPads and art supplies you provided have become essential tools that help our students learn in ways that match their strengths, support their challenges, and build their confidence every day.\r\n\r\nThe iPads offer multiple ways for students to access information, audio stories for those who struggle with decoding, interactive visuals for students who need more support with comprehension, and picture dictionaries that help students with language delays understand new words. Voice-to-text tools allow students with fine-motor difficulties or handwriting challenges to express their ideas freely. These tools reduce frustration, support independence, and give students the chance to focus on the joy of learning rather than the barriers they often encounter.\r\n\r\nOur students are especially excited by how the iPad let them pair digital learning with hands-on art. Creating mini posters after reading, recording their voices, and making simple videos helps them show what they know in ways that feel fun, safe, and accessible. Many students who are shy or anxious are willing to participate more because the technology gives them structure, choice, and a sense of control.\r\n\r\nAre there particular students who have especially warmed to this new technology?\r\nAbsolutely. Several students who usually avoid reading or writing are now engaging with tasks that once felt overwhelming. One student with significant handwriting challenges now uses voice-to-text to create a full \"All About Me\" piece, and then proudly adds drawings to personalize it. Another student who is nonverbal uses communication apps and picture slides to share a story with the class. For the first time, this student can present their thoughts from start to finish, and the pride they feel is clear to everyone.","fullyFundedDate":1760903655605,"projectUrl":"project/celebrating-me-and-my-world/9843152/","projectTitle":"Celebrating Me and My World","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Moore","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10319064"},{"teacherId":5261186,"projectId":9828083,"letterContent":"Thanks to your support, these new texts are helping my 10th graders build powerful reading and thinking skills. As students journey from The Odyssey to Percy Jackson and then into African, Caribbean, and Middle Eastern stories, they learn how to analyze character traits, trace themes across cultures, compare how different authors portray heroism, and connect literature to the real world. These books also give us rich opportunities to practice close reading, annotation, citing textual evidence, and evaluating how culture shapes a hero's values and actions.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading is active, collaborative, and reflective. Students annotate their books, participate in small-group discussions, build comparisons across texts, and use evidence to defend their interpretation of what makes a hero. They watch short film clips, read poems and articles, and then return to the anchor texts to deepen their understanding. Reading isn't silent or passive; it's full of questions and debates.\r\n\r\nAnd already, certain students are thriving with the new materials. One student who rarely engaged before has become deeply invested in Percy Jackson because he finally sees a modern hero who feels relatable. Another student who loves art is excited to use the new supplies to create visual representations of the heroes she's studying. A quiet student who usually avoids sharing now contributes confidently during discussions about heroism in different cultures. These texts are helping students see themselves in stories and see the world through new perspectives.\r\n\r\nThank you for giving them the tools to think critically, connect personally, and discover what heroism truly means.","fullyFundedDate":1760583619392,"projectUrl":"project/exploring-heroes-across-cultures-from-o/9828083/","projectTitle":"Exploring Heroes Across Cultures: From Odysseus to Today","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Tomeo","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp5261186_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1522279336027","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mstomeo"},{"teacherId":10315510,"projectId":9836998,"letterContent":"We are grateful for the supplies. When we first completed the donor form request students were nervous the request would be ignored. When I told them the project was approved, they were still nervous. They were so excited to see boxes arriving. One student commented that it was just like Christmas! \r\n Although items are still arriving, we have already used the wipe off boards for brainstorming. My students said brainstorming this way made it much easier and they liked the break from paper and computers.\r\n I am excited to see them build these materials into their own lesson plans which we will start creating next week.
