The scholars were excited to see their reflection in the mirror as they produced letter sounds. The scholars were also able to see how their mouth, tongue, and teeth play an important role with speaking, forming, and pronouncing letter sounds.\r\n \r\nThe second letter activity involved students blending words with picture cards. We continue to utilized the donated supplies for more projects! This self-portrait project has had a meaningful impact on my K–5 students because it has given them an opportunity to explore both art and their own identities. With the new art materials provided by our generous donors, students have been able to create self-portraits that are personal, creative, and reflective of who they are. Rather than simply drawing a face, students have been learning how artists use observation, proportion, color, line, shape, and detail to communicate ideas about themselves. The project has also helped students understand that there is no single \"right\" way to create a self-portrait. Each student's artwork is unique because each student is unique.\r\n\r\nWe are using the new resources throughout the different stages of our K–5 self-portrait project. Depending on their grade level, students are practicing skills such as drawing facial features, observing their own characteristics, mixing and selecting colors that represent skin tones and hair, and adding personal details to their artwork.
