You could see the excitement on students face's as they got to hear some of their favorite stories be read aloud as they followed along with the pages. Since introducing the Yoto's, our wonderful kindergarten and 1st grade teachers have used them in a variety of different ways during the day, and students have loved getting to experience reading and storytelling in a new way. \r\nWe are excited to keep exploring them as the year goes on. We currently have 6 swallowtail caterpillar butterlfies to overwinter in our butterfly house and will release them in the spring (we did this last year too) and the children were so enchanted then, and this crew is enchanted and wanting to learn more too! The swallowtail butterflies have been visitng the flowers in our bird sanctuary. It is so exciting. They watch for them daily. Your generosity has created a space for loving and respecting the animals who inhabit our courtyard with us! The children are having an absolute blast playing together and discovering the joy of sand using different tools and objects in the sand table. I used to have a small bin full of sand that only had space for one child to play comfortably, but the new sand and water table is so large, that four children can use it at the same time. It's been so much fun to hear the conversations and dramatic play that now happens. I put a few small scoops and bowls inside and they are pretending to cook, and other types of imaginative play. It is so fun to watch their fun! I currently have our sand and water table in our outdoor bird sanctuary and the children talk about the birds they see or hear as they learn and explore together. We first used the headphones (while researching habitats on Epic) and the habitat books. After some research, we chose our favorite animals and wrote non-fiction books about them. We also showed our artistic side by sketching our chosen animal and sculpting it out of Playdoh . We made models of six habitats and used the toy animals for each one. We have been playing with the habitats and animals each day during our explore time.\r\n\r\nThey were so excited and curious about the animals some of which they had never seen before! They also had a great time deciding where each animal would live and why.
