I knew it was going to be a time saver but really didn't know until I finally used it. Additionally, the cardstock paper was used for a 4th and 5th grade project that turned out great. Having new toys/games really helps get us through some of our long winter days. \r\n\r\nI strive to keep students off the screen and collaborating with each other in creative ways. I like to teach my students how to \"lose\" respectfully and take turns. Our new generation of students really struggle with losing and allow others to take turns. This is where students are pulled for small group to work solely at their level. Its then followed by a whole group read aloud where we discuss new vocabulary, reading strategies, and inferring about our reading. Our 2nd unit in reading is our biggest: Research. Students spend 9 weeks researching a specific bug while learning about each others bugs along the way. Later, students present their research through presentation boards and nonfiction books in which they are the authors. We love to immerse into reading here at Hazel Park School District! Students love listening to stories read aloud, then joining in with singing, clapping rhythms, or acting out parts of the book. This hands-on approach makes reading come alive and allows students to see how words and music work together to tell stories.\r\n\r\nSome of my most reluctant readers are now the first to volunteer to hold a book or read along with me.
