Our world as we know it is a vast technological sea, with so much to explore, learn, and conquer as we move through our day-to-day lives. As a STEAM teacher, that is where I come in to teach students just how to navigate and use technology in a safe, beneficial way.\r\n\r\nIn STEAM, we focus on technology based subjects; online safety, typing, coding, robotics, careers within technology based fields - all of this is done in a hands-on approach. Where students are taking the lead in their learning, and because of this, there is a lot of independent work to be done. That is where the headphones come into play in assisting my students with their learning in STEAM. This is my first year teaching, and I took over a position from a teacher who had left, leaving me with all the materials to sort through. When I came across our old headphones, I was shocked to see just how dated they were, and having students attempt to use them often ended in frustration and failure of the technology due to its age. That is when i decided that something needed to be done so that my students did not have the barrier of aged or broken technology standing in their way of learning. \r\n\r\nFirstly, the students love that they get to pick a color for their headphones, you'd be surprised how many think that the \"purple ones work better\" in reality it just is their favorite color. It has been especially cool to see students utilizing them with our coding activities, in a recent activity students were able to create music in a sound-mixer utilizing coding structures. It was amazing to see just how much they loved creating songs, sharing them, and taking such time in understanding the sounds they were hearing. Because of those headphones, and that very activity, I have a 5th Grader who before was not very interested in coding - and now, since our Music Lab activity has found a love for music creation. Even going as far as sharing with me that he thinks this could be a career in his future and he has hopes for taking coding classes in Middle School next year. \r\n\r\nWhile some may look at headphones and think nothing of it, our students at Webb Elementary have lit up at the chance to use them. It truly is amazing how much impact a single item can have on a students perspective of learning. Thank you again for your care, consideration and support.","fullyFundedDate":1770998021896,"projectUrl":"project/headphones-for-steam/10080302/","projectTitle":"Headphones for STEAM!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Webb","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10328498_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y108&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762395719474","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/alexandra-webb"},{"teacherId":10026229,"projectId":10150076,"letterContent":"This year has been the year for new books in room 212. Books are great to get students exploring, researching specific topics, and growing a love for reading. As great as books are, they can get expensive and difficult to provide a large quantity. Through donors choose and multiple projects funded, I've been able to bring many (over 50) new books to my classroom. Some books were hand selected by my 2nd grade students, while others are picked by me to drive instruction. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, my goal has been to get kids reading and LOVING it. I've kept a book display in my classroom where new books show up monthly. These books usually are themed based on the month. September books are usually about social emotional learning and building community. October books are typically halloween themed with a mystery genre and so on. My book display has been a huge success. Kids are reading all kids of books. Fiction and non fiction a like. This would not have been made possible without your support. I had never imagined I would have an opportunity like this to work with so many students, but it has been better than I ever could have expected. Each class has a unique group of students, with different needs, personalities, strengths and learning styles. Because of this, I realized that I was not equipped with all the materials needed to support all the students that I see throughout the week. This project was created to ensure that all students had access to the activities we do in STEAM, regardless of any differences they may have or accommodations they may need. \r\n\r\nWhen I first received the materials, I was excited to share them with our students, but also with one of my teaching partners, who teaches art. Being able to have crayons, markers, pencils, and scissors that all students can use opens up possibilities for creation both in STEAM and in Art. Students were so excited and loved using them, many saying the materials were easier to hold, use and let them create freely without worrying about their grip. \r\n\r\nAs we move toward the end of the year, I have learned so much about our students, their needs, and how I can be a better teacher for them in our next school year. Now I have a great set of tools, experiences and knowledge that will allow me to offer an even better STEAM experience for my students in my second year of teaching.","fullyFundedDate":1769191997654,"projectUrl":"project/adaptive-steam-class/9855827/","projectTitle":"Adaptive STEAM Class!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Webb","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10328498_orig.jpg?crop=2316,2316,x0,y108&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762395719474","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/alexandra-webb"},{"teacherId":9339412,"projectId":9816693,"letterContent":"My students absolutely love these new items for the Art room. Graphic novels are really popular so anything that gets them reading, I'm sold on. \r\n\r\nIt's difficult to get students to love reading, especially if they are a struggling reader So this is my way of encouraging the love of reading for ALL students.
