The wobble cushions, chair bands, weighted animals, and new hand fidgets and clay have given my 4th graders productive ways to move and self-regulate while learning.\r\n\r\nWe use these resources every day. With 33 students, our classroom can feel busy, but these sensory supports help students manage their attention and anxiety so they can stay engaged and confident. The weighted animals have quickly become a favorite, offering comfort and grounding when students need it most.\r\n\r\nWith these tools supporting their focus and well-being, students are more willing to take on challenges and persevere through tasks. We began by reading the books as a group then watching a video featuring Eric Carle explaining his process. Next, as a group, we painted several large pieces of paper with a variety of colors and textures. Each time we read a book from the collection we noticed the shapes that were cut from paper and discussed how we could do the same thing. I supplied craft punches of different shapes and scissors. Students also tore and folded the paper to create shapes of the animals and scenes that they wanted to depict. Parents were so excited each day when they saw the growing and changing. \r\nWe also received several Mo Willems books that were, of course, a huge hit! Elephant and Piggie convey so many feelings with so few words that they are accessible to all and thoughtful enough to engage our older or more advanced students.\r\n\r\nThank you again for the generous gift. Having the projector allows me to provide engaging and fun music and movement opportunities, providing physical activity and gross motor skill building opportunities. \r\n\r\nThe last use we had for the projector last year was at our end of the year party.
