My students were excited with the new carpet as now they'll be able to sit on the floor and will be able to watch movies take notes and have flexible seating.\r\nThe scissors and colored pencils will allow my students to make more creative projects. My students were very excited with the skin tone color pencils because not everybody is the same color and as they tell me Dr. Ak we can now make you peach and not white LOL.\r\nIt is truly the little things that make the difference in my classroom. My students love to tell me that my class is the only class that they don't have to share supplies that they can go and get what they need without worrying about not having the right color or not having a glue stick or tape or color pencils. Again thank you so much for your kindness and generosity. The books are helping to build a love for reading and expand my students' knowledge. The snacks ensure that students can focus and learn without distraction. It's great to know that if a student runs out of snacks, or the parent is simply in a tight spot financially, we school nurses can still help provide those snacks because of the generous donations from ESPN and the CFP Foundation. \r\n\r\nWe can now help to ensure that students are safe and have access to emergency snacks.\r\nThis is especially true for our diabetic students who may need an emergency snack during the school day for low blood sugars. It is reassuring to know that as those students walk home in the afternoon, or board the bus they will have a snack in case of emergency situations.\r\n\r\nThank you so very much to all of the donors. Many of our donors use technology at home, but in the classroom we're able to use these tools in ways that transform how students think, create, and explore. With the new devices, my students are learning to code, problem-solve, and apply math and science skills in real time. They're also using their headphones to listen to digital books, take virtual classroom tours, and explore online content that supports their lessons. This exposure is showing them that technology isn't just for entertainment it's a powerful tool for learning, discovery, and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe students are especially excited about the coding activities. They love programming animations, controlling robots, and watching their ideas come to life on the screen. For many of them, this is their first time seeing how coding works, and it has opened their eyes to new possibilities for future careers. Even students who normally struggle in traditional lessons are fully engaged when they're using technology because it gives them a hands-on, interactive way to learn.\r\n\r\nI've also noticed a few students who have especially connected with the new technology. Some who are typically quiet in class become leaders during coding time, helping classmates debug their work or try new strategies. Others who enjoy reading have been thrilled to use the headphones to listen to new books and explore topics at their own pace. Overall, this experience is broadening their understanding of what technology can do and helping them see learning in exciting new ways. Your support has truly transformed our classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1746785980674,"projectUrl":"project/level-up-learning-stem-tech-and-reward/9290427/","projectTitle":"Level Up Learning: STEM, Tech and Rewards for Summer Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Matthews","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-1_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8896901"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_17440","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":561,"numTeachers":25,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":88,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":8,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":0,"gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"22.4:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":33.7,"schoolId":17440,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westlawn Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westlawn Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/tuscaloosa-city-school-district/westlawn-middle-school/17440"}
