Since the time of your donation, I've experienced a big change. I recently transitioned to a new district and now teach 8th grade English Language Arts. While these books were originally selected with my previous students in mind, they have found a new and equally meaningful home here with my current readers.\r\n\r\nMy new students have eagerly taken to the titles you helped provide. Many of them are higher-level readers who are constantly seeking engaging, challenging texts that push their thinking and stretch their vocabulary. These books have become the perfect fit, sparking conversations about identity, justice, resilience, and perspective. Whether they're annotating passages, leading small group discussions, or writing reflections, my students are growing into thoughtful, independent readers who take ownership of their learning.\r\n\r\nReading in our classroom is a shared experience. We read to connect with characters, with each other, and with ourselves. Students select books from our classroom library for independent reading, book clubs, and literature circles. The variety and quality of these texts have allowed me to pair students with stories that meet them right where they are academically and emotionally.\r\n\r\nThank you for helping build a bridge between readers and stories that challenge, inspire, and empower them. Your generosity continues to ripple outward, reaching new classrooms and new minds every day.","fullyFundedDate":1743887653092,"projectUrl":"project/expanding-minds-fostering-independent/9208797/","projectTitle":"Expanding Minds & Fostering Independent Reading Through Young Adult Literature","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Katkich","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5026840_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742864658562","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5026840"},{"teacherId":5026840,"projectId":8969671,"letterContent":"This Donors Choose project has had a profound impact on our ninth-grade students by fostering a positive and motivating school environment during a critical transition in their academic journey. By enhancing the PBIS program with meaningful incentives, students have been encouraged to demonstrate respect, responsibility, and readiness to learn, reinforcing key values essential for success in high school and beyond.\r\n\r\nThe establishment of an online incentive store has provided our students with tangible rewards such as art supplies, gift cards, tech accessories, and snacks—items that resonated with their interests and needs. This approach not only motivated students to engage in positive behaviors but also helped cultivate a sense of belonging and appreciation within the school community. As a result, students felt recognized for their efforts, boosting their confidence and commitment to personal growth.\r\n\r\nAdditionally, the program's emphasis on positive reinforcement helped build a school culture where students supported one another in making responsible choices. By rewarding behaviors that aligned with school values, the initiative contributed to a ripple effect, inspiring students to develop habits that promote academic success and social responsibility.\r\n\r\nFor many ninth graders, especially those from diverse socioeconomic backgrounds, access to these incentives provided an extra layer of support, reinforcing their belief in their own potential. The project empowered students to take ownership of their success, laying a strong foundation for the rest of their high school experience. Ultimately, this initiative has helped shape a thriving, respectful, and engaged learning community where students felt valued and motivated to achieve their goals and continue to do achieve more!","fullyFundedDate":1734015969050,"projectUrl":"project/inspiring-excellence-incentives-for-nin/8969671/","projectTitle":"Inspiring Excellence: Incentives for Ninth Grade PBIS Success","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Katkich","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5026840_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1742864658562","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5026840"},{"teacherId":5026840,"projectId":8706549,"letterContent":"The Points for Perks: Fueling Future Success program has significantly elevated academic excellence and student engagement in my classroom. By tying positive behaviors and academic achievements to tangible rewards, students are more motivated than ever to actively participate in their education and reach their full potential.\r\n\r\nThe program has fostered a heightened focus on academic rigor. Students are more committed to mastering critical skills such as analyzing complex texts, constructing evidence-based arguments, and engaging in meaningful discussions. Engagement in my classroom has become a vibrant, interactive experience. Students now approach classroom assignments and activities with enthusiasm and a sense of purpose. They engage in group discussions, annotate with precision, and collaborate on projects that deepen their comprehension. \r\n\r\nThe incentive system has also transformed classroom culture by promoting healthy competition and a drive for success. Students are eager to excel in assessments, participate in activities, and adhere to expectations, knowing their efforts will be recognized and rewarded. For example, one previously disengaged student worked diligently to improve their essay-writing skills, ultimately earning a reward and, more importantly, a newfound confidence in their abilities.\r\n\r\nThanks to this program, students are not just working harder—they're working smarter. They are more engaged, motivated, and invested in their academic success. Your support for this initiative has empowered my students to embrace challenges, celebrate their achievements, and discover the joy of learning.
