The materials that I received thanks to Donors Choose have been invaluable to my classroom. \r\n\r\nWe have been engaged in many units of study that involve different countries and cultures. I've been teaching with an old globe that is stationary and not really meant to be handled. The globes I was able to purchase because of this grant are amazing!! The students LOVE holding the \"Earth\" in their hands and finding the place we're studying. They particularly love to find \"Home\" and then \"travel\" to Mesopotamia, Ancient Egypt, Europe...the adventures are endless. \r\n\r\nThe chairs and wiggle bands have allowed my young learners to move, wiggle, sit on the ground, and make choices about their physical needs. My classroom is a place where students can choose a work spot that is best for their learning. This increases productivity and engagement and decreases disruptive behavior and frustration. \r\n\r\nThank you for these wonderful resources!!","fullyFundedDate":1732304646541,"projectUrl":"project/adventures-in-literacy/8571424/","projectTitle":"Adventures in Literacy","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Walker","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp219212_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1723241291844","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/caroline-walker"},{"teacherId":8111866,"projectId":8569631,"letterContent":"I am writing to express my heartfelt gratitude for your generous donation to the small groups I work with at school. Your contribution has had a profound impact on the students, and I wanted to take a moment to share just how much it has meant to our learners.\r\n\r\nThe funds you provided allowed us to invest in a variety of reading comprehension games and phonics tools—resources that have truly made a difference in the classroom. These students have often struggled to find success in traditional learning environments, and for many, reading and writing have been sources of frustration. But with the help of your donation, we've been able to turn those challenges into exciting, rewarding opportunities for growth and success.\r\n\r\nFor students who have previously felt like they weren't \"good enough\" at reading or had difficulty connecting with the material, the games have been a game-changer. The phonics games, in particular, have made learning to decode words a fun, interactive experience. Instead of seeing letters and sounds as a series of difficult rules to memorize, the students now engage with them in a playful, low-stress way. Their confidence has grown as they've been able to recognize patterns, sound out new words, and celebrate their achievements in ways they hadn't before. For some of these students, this has been the first time they've been able to read a passage independently without feeling overwhelmed or discouraged.\r\n\r\nThe reading comprehension games have provided another layer of support by helping students improve their ability to understand and analyze texts. These games are designed to be engaging yet challenging, which helps the students build stronger critical thinking skills. As they work through scenarios and make decisions about the story or text they're reading, they not only grow in their comprehension but also begin to appreciate the process of reading itself. \r\n\r\nWhat's been truly remarkable is watching students who once felt disconnected from reading become more involved in the process. Their eyes light up when they recognize that they've grasped a new concept, and they beam with pride when they successfully complete a challenging game. These small wins add up, building momentum and a sense of achievement that extends beyond the classroom. Slowly but surely, we are seeing a shift in their attitudes towards learning—what was once a source of anxiety and frustration has become an area where they are willing to put in effort, take risks, and embrace challenges.\r\n\r\nYour support has helped to foster an environment where students who once felt \"behind\" now see themselves as capable learners. It has provided a tangible way to bridge the gap and make learning accessible, engaging, and even fun. Many of these students are now starting to see school as a place where they can succeed, and this shift in mindset is invaluable.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of all my students, thank you. Your donation is not just an investment in materials, but an investment in their future, and the difference it's making in their lives is immeasurable.","fullyFundedDate":1723161736437,"projectUrl":"project/rapid-readers/8569631/","projectTitle":"Rapid Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Fortier","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8111866_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1636597096044","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8111866"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_73937","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":647,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":19,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":6,"percentWhite":62,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":15,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.6:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":56.4,"schoolId":73937,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Westerly Creek Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Westerly Creek Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/denver-public-school-district-1/westerly-creek-elementary-school/73937"}
