My students were very grateful to receive new books, especially ones that they are able to read and are interested in. They love the 'choose' books where they learn about a historical event and make choices to see if they can survive it. They were shocked each time they didn't, and then thought it was hilarious. I work with students who have reading disabilities, so having a book that they can read by themselves, and that is actually engaging with their interests and age level, is so hard to find! Students are practicing fluency and comprehension skills, and do not feel like they are reading books intended for kindergarten/first grade. These items really help me keep them interested in learning.","fullyFundedDate":1755731434260,"projectUrl":"project/turning-pages-changing-lives/9560111/","projectTitle":"Turning Pages, Changing Lives","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Hauswirth","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5937481_orig.jpg?crop=414,414,x750,y732&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1566413113452","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/hauswirthbooks"},{"teacherId":5937481,"projectId":8596705,"letterContent":"My students love our new supplies! Two of the biggest hits were the Play-Doh and gel pens! Using Play-Doh and gel pens can make learning spelling rules easier and more fun for kids with dyslexia. Students can shape letters and words with Play-Doh, letting them feel the letters. Using their hands to create letters makes spelling more real and easier to understand- it also feels like play, so they're more willing to practice without feeling pressured.\r\n The gel pens help distinguish colors for vowels, consonants, or tricky parts of words. Seeing the colors helps them notice patterns in spelling. Plus they provide smooth writing. The bright, colorful pens make spelling practice more exciting and enjoyable.\r\n These tools use multiple senses—touch, sight, and movement—which is especially helpful for kids with dyslexia. They make learning spelling feel fun and creative instead of stressful, helping kids stay motivated and remember better.
