From fine-motor activities and movement-based learning tools to engaging books and math manipulatives, these materials help children build confidence as they grow academically and physically.\r\n\r\nEven more importantly, these resources create opportunities for teamwork, peer interaction, and relationship building in the classroom. When students work together to solve math problems, read with partners, or use movement tools in group activities, they learn how to communicate, collaborate, and support one another. I support a preschool program for 2-3 year olds with disabilities, as well as community daycares and preschools. Literacy for our youngest learners is all about exploration of books, opportunities to listen to new words, finding books that meet each child's interests, and developing a love for reading. We know early literacy activities set the stage for future literacy and reading success. While most children are easily engaged with books and many parents find book reading a special time with their child, there are some children who are not interested in books. I provide coaching and tips to parents for different ways to engage their child with books. I often encourage parents to choose books that are about their child's special interests, books that are brightly colored, and ones that are interactive. One way we can make board books more interactive is by adding pictures that are removable on each page. This adaptation provides an increased opportunity to interact with the book and adds a little more attraction to it. It has definitely been fun to see my students get excited and engaged with these books and props. I ended up reading one book multiple times to one student who doesn't typically make it through one reading. I am hoping to continue to have the opportunity to share these books with students in the hopes of continuing to help students learn to love books!! Thank you for your generous contribution to our project and for making a difference in the lives of our earliest learners.","fullyFundedDate":1730918894734,"projectUrl":"project/adapted-books-for-special-education-pres/8715112/","projectTitle":"Adapted Books for Special Education Preschoolers","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Dettman","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/2869326"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_53436","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":431,"numTeachers":29,"percentFrplEligible":44,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":0,"percentWhite":83,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":11,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 1","studentTeacherRatio":"14.9:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"TOWN","ncesMetroType":"TOWN_DISTANT"},"inStateSupporters":67.0,"schoolId":53436,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/minnesota/hutchinson-independent-school-district-423/west-elementary-school/53436"}
