Their enthusiasm for reading and now in turn Science has been incredible! I have never seen my students so excited to come to class, sit quietly, and a husky be engaged I a lesson. They expressed to me how they had never had a copy of their own book to read. They choose to leave post it notes with tid bits of advice )without giving the plot away) for next years' class. This is a tradition that I will continue, always giving credit to this classfor starting it. \r\nThe creativity sparked and shown in their projects shows how much they enjoyed this book. I saw a lack of motivation for our writing assignments or even to read about the artists of Hip Hop past. But, the day came where we had turntable Fridays. Not only did I see smiles on their faces, more students started to show up. They were eager to touch and listen to their creations. They were intrigued by the different buttons that created different effects and some were even trying to duplicate beats from artists they know. They collaborated with each other to create something new.\r\n\r\nThis electric excitement was not only contained to our weekly turntable day, but it spread to other days of the week. I saw an increase in interest and motivation in the class. More students were eager to read about old school Hip Hop artists and more written work wasn't being turned in. I found myself with a full first period at one point, this had never happened before. This drive pushed students to apply themselves in the work they were submitting. They were open to feedback and applying it to their written work. Students who are known for not showing up or \"doing\" the work, found themselves being present and doing it.","fullyFundedDate":1735668138902,"projectUrl":"project/hip-hop-history-in-ela/8936500/","projectTitle":"Hip Hop History in ELA","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sanchez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1047654_orig.png?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1704754493184","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/1047654"},{"teacherId":3828424,"projectId":8700444,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your contribution to this project! This is thanks to your donations. Students have been playing more guitar than ever before, learning new songs, and engaged in our music classroom in a new and exciting ways. \r\n\r\nI am pleased to say that this year we have had boom of new 7th grade drummers thanks to our new drum pads. These have provided a more fulfilling experience for students during our drum unit. The goal of providing a full drum line will require more resources and time, these drum pads have allowed to advance our reading, improve technique, and inspire to new percussionists. \r\n\r\nThanks to your donations we have been able to restring over 20 guitars allowing each student to have their own guitar during instruction. This has allowed us to complete entire units for guitar from strumming, plucking, playing chords, and reading tablature of some of our favorite songs. Guitar has quickly become students favorite instrument of study.\r\n\r\nNot only have our classes benefited from your donations, but our Morning Music Club has as well. This year we have more student participation than ever, with over 20 middle school and high school students regularly attending before school, twice a week to make music. This has helped us to improve student attendance as well as add to our school culture. Every Tuesday and Thursday morning you can hear the halls of West Bronx Academy humming with the music of our Morning Music Club.\r\n\r\nAfter ten years of teaching, seeing the smiles on students faces from playing a new instrument or finally learning their favorite song continues to bring joy and fulfillment to my life. Creating space and opportunity for all students to thrive is a core principal of my teaching philosophy. These spaces and opportunities could not be possible without your donations. Thank you. Have a safe holiday and please continue to support the arts.","fullyFundedDate":1723891197165,"projectUrl":"project/our-first-steps-to-drum-line/8612111/","projectTitle":"Our First Steps to Drum Line!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Rose","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp3767920_orig.jpg?crop=1536,1536,x259,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1601999507539","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/james-rose"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_30434","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":574,"numTeachers":46,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":15,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":81,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"12.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":57.7,"schoolId":30434,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about West Bronx Academy for the Future on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"West Bronx Academy for the Future","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/new-york/new-york-city-dept-of-ed/west-bronx-academy-for-the-future/30434"}
