I have had students realize that they matter, and they have the power to show others that they also matter. A strong yearbook and news publication send the message to kids that they can make a difference in the lives of their peers, in their school and in the world. You'll be happy to know that these get A LOT of use. In fact, the mirrorless cameras are so popular with kids, they are almost always checked out, and that is really the best kind of classroom tech purchase -- equipment that is in the hands of students as a learning tool all year long.\r\n\r\nOne positive benefit I've noticed because of our upgrades in photo equipment is students challenging themselves to learn new techniques and strategies, experimenting as learners, and making the most of the opportunity to capture the stories of their peers all around them. In fact, this is a project I'd say we could not have made it through the year without. Kids adapted amazingly quickly to not having access to their phones, learning how to use digital voice recorders, transfer their files to the computer, and even use some newer Adobe tools to help with transcription.
