Our new rug has transformed an area that once felt cold and uncomfortable into a warm, inviting communication hub where my preschool students can sit, play, learn, and connect with one another. We use the rug every day during play-based speech therapy, story time, social skills activities, and small-group communication practice. Having a defined, comfortable space has helped our students settle in and focus on the activities rather than being distracted by the hard tile floor.\r\n\r\nOne of my favorite moments has been watching students naturally gather together on the rug during play and begin communicating with one another. Activities that once required frequent reminders to stay engaged now feel more like opportunities for students to explore, talk, take turns, and practice social communication in a comfortable environment. The rug has also helped reduce some of the noise and echoes in the room, making it easier for young learners to hear and understand one another.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new rug, they were excited to explore it and immediately wanted to sit and play on it! For many of our youngest learners, having a comfortable and welcoming place to learn makes a big difference in how secure and ready they feel to participate. I am incredibly grateful to our donors for helping create a space where little voices can feel comfortable, valued, and confident. Your generosity has provided much more than a rug—it has helped create a special place where my students can build communication skills, friendships, and confidence.","fullyFundedDate":1778274604159,"projectUrl":"project/a-sound-rug-for-little-voices/10079805/","projectTitle":"A \"Sound\" Rug for Little Voices","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Willingham","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10254737_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1771606742996","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10254737"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_14911","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":527,"numTeachers":39,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":67,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":6,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","percentHawaiianImputed":0,"percentMultiracialImputed":8,"gradesServed":"K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"13.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_SMALL"},"inStateSupporters":71.9,"schoolId":14911,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Weaver Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Weaver Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alabama/calhoun-county-school-district/weaver-elementary-school/14911"}
