The room divider has allowed us to create a designated calming space where students can take a break, regulate their emotions, and feel safe and comfortable. By reducing visual distractions and providing a quieter, more private area, we are helping students develop the skills they need to manage their emotions and return to learning when they are ready.\r\n\r\nWe are using this calming space throughout the school day to support students who need a break from classroom activities or additional time to regulate their bodies and emotions. Students are learning to recognize when they need a break and use calming strategies such as deep breathing, sensory tools, and quiet activities. Our goal is to help students become more independent in recognizing and managing their emotional needs. They get so excited when they see the different congas and djembes set out for us to use, and they ask to use them all the time. The new activities we can do with the drums are refreshing, and the students like the larger drums. Hand drums are excellent, but the congas and djembes are more conducive for ensemble play, and for drumming activities as a class. Especially songs to learn while drumming. The larger instruments are also easier to play for longer periods of time, so if we drum all class long the students hands don't hurt from hitting the rim on accident. Your donations gave these drums to my students, and in the month and a half we've had them they've already had a big impact, so thank you!","fullyFundedDate":1786541804597,"projectUrl":"project/drums-for-elementary-music/10230905/","projectTitle":"Drums for Elementary Music","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Robson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8689769_orig.jpg?crop=2448,2448,x0,y228&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1668797429274","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8689769"},{"teacherId":9885364,"projectId":10373624,"letterContent":"My students are using these resources to engage with books and help to establish classroom routines. The cart has really helped them understand where they put assignments when they are finished and it helps me organize their materials after they turn it in. The books are very helpful for my students since 90% of them have autism and they really enjoy the sensory aspect of the touch and feel books. I will continue to utilize the books in my lessons throughout the year and to help them engage with materials in a way that supports their sensory needs.\r\nMy students loved seeing the books when they arrived at school. So many of them gravitated to these materials because they love how they feel and how they look. They are very durable so that these students are able to handle them without tearing the pages. We are already seeing the impact of your generosity every time students open a book, lean into a discussion, or excitedly share a new fact with a classmate.\r\n\r\nOur students are reading about space exploration, civil rights, Indigenous knowledge, science, history, environmental issues, entrepreneurship, and so much more. For many of them, these books have opened up a whole new kind of reading. Students who may not always be drawn to traditional novels are discovering that nonfiction can be fascinating, surprising, and deeply engaging.\r\n\r\nDuring our literature circles, students are talking about big ideas, asking thoughtful questions, making connections across subjects, and learning from one another. They are building reading stamina, vocabulary, background knowledge, and confidence—but just as importantly, they are beginning to see reading as a way to understand the world around them.\r\n\r\nOne of the best parts has been watching students recommend books to each other, debate ideas from their reading, and become genuinely excited about what they are learning. That kind of curiosity is exactly what we hoped this project would inspire.\r\n\r\nBecause of your support, these books will continue to be used by our entire 5th grade team for years to come. Your generosity has created something lasting: a collection that will help hundreds of students discover that there is a book out there for every kind of reader.\r\n\r\nThank you for believing in our students, supporting their curiosity, and helping us make reading feel alive.","fullyFundedDate":1773848071283,"projectUrl":"project/real-world-stories-for-real-world-reader/10028379/","projectTitle":"Real-World Stories for Real-World Readers","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Panter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4570262_orig.png?crop=296,296,x0,y21&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1708399863560","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4570262"},{"teacherId":8689769,"projectId":9830454,"letterContent":"My students have so enjoyed having brand new drums to play when we do drumming activities.
