Technology has become a vital tool in helping them develop reading and writing skills, especially for students with special needs who benefit from individualized instruction.\r\n\r\nThe iPads enable students to utilize text-to-speech apps to better decode and comprehend text, speech-to-text tools to express their ideas without frustration, and interactive literacy apps that make reading engaging and enjoyable. Our students are also exploring digital libraries, which provide them with access to diverse, leveled texts that match their interests and reading abilities.\r\n\r\nWhat excites students most is the independence and confidence the iPads give them. Many students who previously struggled with reading or writing are now able to complete tasks independently, participate more actively in class, and take pride in their progress. Students with special needs, in particular, have readily adopted the technology, utilizing it to practice skills at their own pace and engage in learning experiences that feel tailored to their needs.\r\n\r\nOverall, the iPads have not only enhanced literacy instruction but also fostered a love of reading and a sense of accomplishment in all of our learners.","fullyFundedDate":1746787215157,"projectUrl":"project/enhancing-literacy-for-all-ipads-for-in/9104161/","projectTitle":"Enhancing Literacy for All: iPads for Inclusive Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Karlowicz","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-3_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/kristie-karlowicz"},{"teacherId":1073428,"projectId":9134402,"letterContent":"When our new flexible seating arrived, the energy in the classroom completely shifted. The bungee chairs and other seating choices quickly became student favorites, especially in our reading nooks. Suddenly, independent reading felt more like curling up in a cozy spot at home, and group projects became more relaxed and engaging. One of my favorite moments was seeing a small group gathered in the nook, each in a bungee chair, leaning in as they bounced ideas off one another. The comfort and excitement of the new setup seemed to spark even more participation and creativity.\r\n\r\nThe day the materials first showed up was unforgettable—students' faces lit up as soon as they saw the chairs. They rushed to try them out, laughing and asking if they could sit there every day. It felt like Christmas morning in our classroom, and that joy carried over into their work. The room immediately felt warmer and more inviting, and the kids took pride in \"their\" new learning space.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're using the flexible seating to build stamina for independent reading and to support our writing and reading workshops. The students love having the choice of where to sit, and it's helping them find their own best ways to focus and collaborate. Even though we couldn't purchase the futon, the bungee chairs and other seating have been a perfect fit, giving students both comfort and ownership of their learning environment. It's clear these additions have made our classroom feel more like a community space where learning is something they look forward to.","fullyFundedDate":1746787158760,"projectUrl":"project/you-can-sit-with-us/9134402/","projectTitle":"You Can Sit With Us!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Bell","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp1073428_orig.jpg?crop=960,960,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1568229743470","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/cheree-bell"},{"teacherId":8980313,"projectId":8816437,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for your generous donation of headsets to our classroom! While many people use technology in their daily lives, it plays an especially vital role in how students learn at school. These headsets have become an essential tool for helping my students focus during digital lessons, engage more deeply with interactive learning platforms, and build independence during reading and science activities.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most is how the headsets help create a personal learning experience. They love using them during virtual labs, science simulations, and literacy programs that read texts aloud. Suddenly, they're not just completing an assignment—they're immersed in it. For many, it's the first time they feel in control of their own learning.\r\n\r\nOne student, in particular, has truly blossomed since receiving these headsets. Previously shy and hesitant to participate, she now confidently completes audio responses in science activities and even helps her peers navigate learning apps. It's amazing how something as simple as a headset has opened up new possibilities for her.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our classroom and supporting our students. As fellow book lovers, we know you understand the power of a good story—but in our classroom, books like this do more than entertain. They inspire, educate, and empower our students to see themselves in new ways.\r\n\r\nWith Hidden Figures, students are building essential reading skills like identifying main ideas and supporting details, analyzing character traits and motivations, and making real-world connections to science, math, and history. We use the book to teach lessons on perseverance, teamwork, and breaking barriers. Students are not only practicing their comprehension and discussion skills, but also exploring themes of equity, representation, and innovation.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading looks like students gathered in small groups with highlighters in hand, annotating inspiring quotes and discussing how the characters faced and overcame obstacles. It looks like quiet moments of reflection and lively debates about fairness, opportunity, and the role of women in STEM.\r\n\r\nSeveral students have connected deeply with the stories of Katherine Johnson, Mary Jackson, and Dorothy Vaughan. One student, in particular, said, \"I didn't know women like me helped send rockets to space. I want to do that, too.\" Others have asked to check out the book to re-read at home or read more about NASA and space science.\r\n\r\nThanks to you, we aren't just reading—we're dreaming bigger.
