The incredible collection of biographies and true stories you helped fund has opened doors to meaningful conversations and deep learning. These books have introduced our students to powerful themes like resilience, creativity, justice, and innovation—through the lives of real people who changed the world. From Gwendolyn Brooks' lyrical brilliance to Jerry Lawson's tech ingenuity, each story has sparked new interests and broadened our students' understanding of what's possible.\r\nReading in our library now feels like a journey. Students gather in cozy reading corners and collaborative spaces to explore the lives of pioneers like Marie Curie, Simone Biles, and Louis Braille. These texts have helped us support literacy development across grade levels—teaching skills like identifying character traits, analyzing cause and effect, and making text-to-self connections—while also nurturing empathy and a growth mindset. \r\nSeveral students have found personal heroes in these pages. One young reader, fascinated by gymnastics, found \"Flying High - The Story of Gymnastics Champion Simone Biles\" inspirational. Another, who dreams of becoming a paleontologist, was excited to find \"Dinosaur Lady - The daring Discoveries of Mary Anning, the First Paleontologist,\" proudly declaring, \"She was the first paleontologist like I want to be!\" These books are more than just stories—they're seeds of possibility, helping our students imagine bold futures and believe in their own potential.","fullyFundedDate":1756412922792,"projectUrl":"project/books-that-build-dreams-true-stories-fo/9575178/","projectTitle":"Books That Build Dreams: True Stories for Growing Minds","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sliva","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9749537"},{"teacherId":9749537,"projectId":8781417,"letterContent":"We are so thankful for your generous donations to our library! We have put the project money to good use! \r\nThe first part of our project to arrive was the window film to give us rainbows in our library. We've been working steadily since Christmas to put the film on our windows. We discovered that our windows are not uniform in their size, so it presented a challenge to us at first. But we've learned and are making good progress on covering all our windows. The students have started to see the rainbows now that the sun is shining again. It makes for a fun and relaxing atmosphere in the library.\r\nOur next item to arrive was the new desk for our Kiva. The Kiva is an annex room in the library that is decorated with a surround-wall mural of the \"Hundred Acre Woods\" from Winnie the Pooh. This room is used for all library lessons because of the fun paintings and the dedicated presentation board and sound system. Until the new desk arrived, we had a dilapidated rolling cart to hold our computer and read-aloud books for lessons. Now, the desk gives the room a more complete feel, and there is enough room for all our lesson supplies. The students noticed right away and wanted to know all about how we got it and where it came from.\r\nFinally, the bouncy yoga ball chairs arrived, and our coach filled them for us. Let me tell you honestly that these have been the students' favorite additions of all from the DonorsChoose project. They enjoy sitting on the ball chairs while reading, coloring, building, or doing puzzles. \r\nThank you again for the impact you've made on our library. You've improved our atmosphere, our aesthetics, and our mood with the items from your generous gift.","fullyFundedDate":1727885694749,"projectUrl":"project/a-real-reading-rainbow/8781417/","projectTitle":"A Real Reading Rainbow","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sliva","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9749537"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_16436","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":516,"numTeachers":45,"percentFrplEligible":95,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":2,"percentWhite":4,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":93,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 4","studentTeacherRatio":"11.5:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":75.9,"schoolId":16436,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Walter Matthys Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Walter Matthys Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/texas/pasadena-independent-school-district/walter-matthys-elementary-school/16436"}
