These books have helped many of my students grow their vocabulary because, through reading, they are constantly encountering new words. It gives them the chance to practice using context clues while also building their vocabulary and grammar skills.\r\n\r\nAs part of our work, students create their own student dictionary where they write the definition, part of speech, synonym, antonym, and a sentence using the word. They also identify the subject, verb, adjective, and predicate in their sentence. The words they choose are completely up to them, but they must select higher level, more sophisticated vocabulary words.\r\n\r\nThere is a group of students who truly value these books, enjoy reading them, and are very grateful to have them in the classroom. One student in particular has read 15 books since January, and from one of the series in this project, she was reading two titles a month. I just want to reiterate to all our donors who made this possible including The Helen and Will Webster Foundation how impactful it is for students to have literature in the classroom that they genuinely enjoy reading.","fullyFundedDate":1772501180148,"projectUrl":"project/a-library-for-every-reader-reflecting-a/9951546/","projectTitle":"A Library for Every Reader: Reflecting All Students Interests","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Leon","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-9_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10043517"},{"teacherId":10043517,"projectId":10133976,"letterContent":"Thank you for the donation of books to our library. Since our publisher allows us to download the stories from our curriculum, we are able to print them out and give students hard copies. This gives them the chance to annotate, highlight, and really interact with the text, which helps them explain their thinking and reasoning more clearly.\r\n\r\nThis is an important skill because while summarizing is essential, making connections to what they are reading makes learning much more meaningful.
