They are learning that nonfiction reading is not just about finding an answer; it's about understanding a person's life, accomplishments, challenges, and impact on the world.\r\n\r\nMy students have been especially excited to have more choices when selecting their historical figures. Some students immediately gravitate toward scientists and inventors, while others are fascinated by athletes, activists, artists, and leaders. They learned some strategies, openings, and the history of chess.
