Each week, students gather around the tables in the media center to learn, laugh, and challenge each other with strategy games. The games have been a wonderful way to build collaboration, problem-solving, and communication skills in a fun, low-stakes environment. One of my favorite moments was watching a group of students who don't usually interact in class come together over a cooperative game, cheering each other on and celebrating their victory as a team.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the new board games, their eyes lit up. They immediately started negotiating which game to try first, and the room filled with excitement and laughter. Many of them shared that it felt like a \"break in the day\" where they could relax while still engaging their minds. The mix of competitive and cooperative games has appealed to different personalities, and it's been rewarding to see students gravitate toward new challenges they wouldn't have tried before.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is to continue using the board games to foster community, leadership, and creative thinking. Students are beginning to take ownership by teaching rules to peers and even suggesting house rules to make games their own. I plan to build on this momentum by connecting certain games to academic skills—like logic puzzles for critical thinking and storytelling games for literacy practice. Thanks to your generosity, our students now have a space to connect, learn, and thrive in ways that go far beyond a traditional classroom lesson.\r\n\r\nThank you for supporting our Pack Time board game group and for giving students this joyful opportunity to learn together.","fullyFundedDate":1724874625467,"projectUrl":"project/teen-tactics-building-skills-through-bo/8587182/","projectTitle":"Teen Tactics: Building Skills Through Board Play","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Bair-Epps","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp2019464_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1458657552407","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/mrs-bair-epps"},{"teacherId":9051916,"projectId":9226133,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our project, Sparking Spanish Adventures in Our Classroom Library. Because of your generosity, my students now have access to a wide variety of Spanish short stories and children's books that have transformed the way we read and learn together in class. These books have introduced skills beyond vocabulary and grammar—they've helped students see how language works in context, how familiar stories sound in another language, and how culture and storytelling are deeply connected. Reading has become a time not just for practicing Spanish, but for imagination and fun! \r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading often looks like small groups working together with picture books, taking turns reading aloud and helping each other identify words they do and don't recognize. It looks like quiet moments when students are absorbed in a story they first heard in English as a child, now discovering it in Spanish. And it looks like proud smiles when students realize they can understand a new story without needing help or translation. Several students who once hesitated to read out loud now volunteer with confidence, showing their peers that progress is possible! Some students get really into the books, and they seek out opportunities to read their favorites.\r\n\r\nThese books have given my students both a challenge and a joy—the chance to grow as readers, language learners, and storytellers. They couldn't believe that people outside our school cared enough to help them succeed.
