What makes this project special is that our students are not learning about some faraway place or problem—they are learning about their home. They are asking questions, researching real issues, collecting evidence, discussing solutions, and beginning to understand that their voices and ideas have value. Your generosity has helped me give them the kind of hands-on experiences that allow them to see themselves as scientists, problem-solvers, and young people who can make a difference.\r\n\r\nFrom the bottom of my heart, thank you. I really appreciate having snacks available because it not only helps address an immediate basic need, but also creates an additional opportunity for continued rapport building and connection with students.\r\n\r\nStudents are excited knowing that they can have a snack at the end of an individual or group session, which has helped motivate them to remain engaged and focused throughout the lesson. At times, students may eat their snack during the session, and I have noticed that they are more attentive and able to participate when they are not distracted by hunger or thinking about when they will be able to eat.\r\n\r\nI appreciate the availability of these snacks because they provide a simple but meaningful way to support students' overall well-being while also creating a welcoming environment where students feel comfortable coming to the counseling office. Being able to offer them appealing choices in areas that will broaden their social understandings is a genuine shift in what my classroom can be — not a supplement to what we do, but a doorway some of them are walking through for the first time. Historical fiction lets them stand inside the history we study rather than memorize it from a distance, and the treats have already celebrated first finished books — for some, the first book, period.\r\n\r\nThat's what you made possible, for kids you've never met. My students were better able to self regulate themselves within various states of enotional dysregulation. Upon receiving these items my students showed extreme delight and inquiry on how they could use these sensory supports on a regular basis. \r\n\r\nMy biggest success story comes from the calming strips that were funded. My students who displayed various states of fidgeting or anxiety were able to utilize these calming strips in school as needed. While processing different situations students who were given a calming strip were observed to utilize them on a regular basis which created a more tranquil environment for both me and the student. I even had a student advocate for themselves by explaining how they would benefit from having an additional calming strip to take home. \r\n\r\nIn the future, I would like to create a larger scale of these sensory kits for my students. By creating more kits I will be able to provide more students with Sensory Supports that they can use on a regular basis in and out of school.
