There is a learning curve for both so we have not even scratched the surface of what is possible. So far the tools were used to support two different grade levels. Students in sixth grade are reading \"Esperanza Rising\". In the novel, the main character hides in a hidden compartment of a wagon. The sixth graders used the MakeDo tools to build models of the wagon complete with a hidden compartent. The fourth graders used the chompsaw and the MakeDo tools to construct rockets. The rockets were an extension of our whole school participation in the Arm & Hammer Rocket Day. Every grade level planned, designed, built, and launched baking soda rockets. The fourth graders learned about space flight with a BrainPOP lesson and then constructed the cardboard rockets with moveable parts. (Actually, they are finishing them this week. The photos show them in-progress using the chompsaw.)\r\nI am learning alongside the students about the capacity and best ways to use these new tools. Integration is important, so I will continue finding relevant projects that support student learning and making a wide variety of tools available to them. That is what I am most grateful for, being able to add to students' choice of tools to meet specific purposes. They are young engineers learning how to use tools when appropriate, not playing with toys. I am excited to continue the journey with the new resources you have helped provide. My students were incredibly excited when they first saw the new materials. For my diverse learners in Kindergarten through 3rd grade, having colorful, hands-on resources makes learning more engaging and meaningful. The Cricut tools are helping us create visual learning materials, STEM project pieces, labels, shapes, letters, and other hands-on resources that allow students to learn by seeing, touching, creating, and doing.\r\n\r\nThese materials have added something special to our STEM activities. My students are able to design, build, decorate, and proudly share their creations while practicing important skills in reading, math, science, fine-motor development, communication, and teamwork. It is especially rewarding to see students who sometimes find traditional classroom activities challenging become excited and confident when they are given an opportunity to create something with their own hands.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue using these resources in meaningful STEM challenges and cross-curricular projects throughout the school year.
