They love it when it is social studies time and I bring out a new magazine. My students are learning new things and are also building on their reading skills. They are increasing their knowledge and expanding their minds. It is my hope that Scholastic News editions will help them learn to become better citizens in our community.\r\n\r\nMy students and I love the digital component as well. I love that the website contains videos we can watch to learn more about particular topics within that edition. The website has games and additional learning opportunities as well. The students enjoy both reading the articles aloud and listening to them being read online. After completing a magazine, the students are given time to work independently on comprehension questions, reading responses, or other learning opportunities assigned to them, all based on that particular magazine edition.\r\n\r\nMy students are able to improve their academics and prepare for the real world. They not only read the magazines with their peers, but with their parents/guardians and siblings as well. I have also seen them choose a magazine to read during our read-to-self time.
