One of my favorite moments was watching a student point to the new books and be so excited to see characters they know and love.\r\nWe are already putting these wonderful resources to work every day. The new bins have given each genre and topic a clear, accessible home, making it easy for us to find the appropriate rotating books. During our independent reading time, students love grabbing a book, cozying up in our reading spot, and sharing stories with a friend whether a classmate or a fun little stuffed reading buddy.\r\nLooking ahead, our next step is using these new books for our upcoming studies. The updated collection gives us rich, engaging read-alouds and student-selected titles that line up directly with our upcoming units, allowing us to dive deeper into literacy, comprehension, and vocabulary.\r\nYour kindness did more than just fill our shelves—it brought fresh joy and energy into our classroom library and sparked a genuine excitement for reading. Instead of simply reading about life cycles, my students are able to observe and experience one firsthand. They have watched eggs develop, cared for living animals, and observed the remarkable changes that occur as chicks grow.\r\n\r\nWe use the incubator and brooding box to connect science, math, literacy, and social-emotional learning. Students observe and record changes, discuss what they notice, make predictions, count and measure, and document their learning through drawings and writing. They also take turns helping with age-appropriate care and learning how to handle the chicks gently and responsibly.\r\n\r\nOne of the most memorable moments was when the students first saw a chick begin to hatch. They were completely captivated! They gathered around the incubator, quietly watching and cheering as the chick worked its way out of the shell. Their excitement quickly turned into curiosity as they began asking questions about what was happening and what would happen next. It was a natural opportunity to teach patience, perseverance, and the importance of allowing the chick to complete the process on its own.\r\n The brooding box made the experience even more exciting because students could continue observing the chicks as they grew.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue observing and documenting the chicks' growth. Students will compare their observations over time, look for patterns, and use what they have learned to deepen their understanding of animal life cycles. We will continue incorporating writing, measurement, and scientific observations into the project.\r\n\r\nMost importantly, these resources have helped create a classroom where learning feels real and purposeful. My students are not just learning about life but they are caring for it, observing it and asking questions about it. Each week we have a new table leader per group, and the students have been loving this responsibility. These students are in charge of making sure their team has the proper supplies in their caddy, and that everything is organized. This has helped streamline the process of getting materials as one person is in charge, and it has created a system that maximizes learning time. Students are no longer digging through their desks, they simply look to their team shelf by their table. \r\n\r\nAlong with this, the tables have also helped to foster group discussions and team work within each team.
