The mailboxes are something we use everyday. It makes handing out flyers and returning work much more efficient. I no longer need to spend hours sorting and resorting who got what. I simply put any papers in their mail box and they collect and take them home in their communications folder at the end of the day. \r\n\r\nYou also donated a globe to our classroom. I have just finished teaching the unit on geography and the globe was so valuable so that students could see lines of latitude and longitude, find the prime meridian and equator and locate major continents and oceans. The escape room helped the students with solving math equations but it also allowed for teamwork. The students had to cooperate and share their thoughts and thinking in order to solve problems so they could open up the next lock. Most of our students had never even seen these type of locks so it was fun to teach them different ways locks can work. They had to use critical thinking and problem solving skills to get the break out box to open. \r\n They developed their problem solving skills by cracking codes, solving algebraic equations, and their deductive skills to solve riddles as a team. The best part about you funding this grant is that we can use the locks again to create a science escape room and a reading escape room. \r\n We are so thankful for your support and generosity. The short stories give us a great opportunity to really dig into the text and talk about the many different skills that we are learning while reading. They also really love the video introduction of different skills that can be focused on while reading. We recently read about Louis Braille and although the skill was to focus on non-fiction text features, we also talked about central idea and key details. We have also read an article comparing and contrasting a roller coaster and waterslide. While focusing on comparing and contrasting we also incorporated finding different text features.\r\n\r\nIn the classroom, we've been taking turns reading portions of the text aloud which the students all enjoy as well. Again, because the stories are shorter, we are able to get through them and really discuss different aspects of the text in our given CORE reading time. We love how there are both fiction and non-fiction texts and they can tie into one another to help build more knowledge on the subject matter.
