They often get these out and play with them and it has been a great way for the kids to interact and make friends. It is also nice to see them have fun without any screens. \r\n\r\nThe other prizes that have been a huge incentive are the candies. They love the chocolate bars and the Jolly Ranchers the most. They are so excited to have a snack in the middle of the day, and we love rewarding them for their hard work and awesome positve behavior! I made a book display featuring a spooky haunted house and then put out all the new books. We even did a book tasting lesson where students could read and sample each book and add the titles to the list of books they want to read. I don't understand why kids love to be scared so much, but they really do. I would not have had so much excitement for reading without this project. \r\n\r\nMy kids read books of their choice every day and we frequently have conferences about their reading and they have discussions about their books as a group with their peers. We also show book trailers on Tuesday and raffle off books to be checked out by students. I love getting them excited about reading and this book display has done that for sure! \r\n\r\nMy most reluctant readers love scary books and they have been checked out so much. Some favorites have been Wait Till Hellen Comes in Graphic Novel form, Garlic and the Vampire, and Another Kind. But, all of the books have been checked out and well loved.
