With your help as well as the tremendous contributions from Google.org, we were able to order a literature book for each week of our school year. The books we ordered have helped us provide stories where students see mirrors of themselves and windows into other people's lives. Among a long list of skills, they have learned concepts of retelling a story with beginning, middle, end, understanding a story's characteristics, making connections to self, text, and the world, as well as learning about nouns, verbs, adjectives and such. The books also contain rich and robust vocabulary that the children have eagerly asked about and remembered. During a recent visit from our Director of Elementary Education, she walked around the room and asked students questions about one of the books we were working on and they were all so engaged and answered all her questions correctly! \r\nThank you again for changing what our reading instruction looks like.
