From the moment students saw it, they were immediately curious and eager to try it out. Many students now ask if they can use the bike desk during independent work, reading activities, and writing assignments because it helps them stay focused and calm while still being able to move. It has quickly become a positive tool for helping students channel their energy in a productive and non-disruptive way.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest successes has been during longer classroom activities, especially in AP World History and Academic Decathlon preparation. During a recent document analysis activity, one student who normally struggles to stay seated and focused was able to pedal quietly while fully participating in the lesson and completing their work. It was wonderful to see how movement helped increase both focus and confidence. Other students have also shared that using the bicycle desk helps them feel less restless and more comfortable during class.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, the bicycle desk will remain an important support tool for students across all my classes and academic teams. It has helped create a more flexible and student-centered classroom where students can better regulate their energy and stay engaged in learning. Students were immediately excited when they walked in and saw the new tables replacing the old chipped ones that had become too small and uncomfortable for many of them. Several students commented on how much more comfortable they felt, especially my taller high school students who no longer have to bump their knees on the bars underneath the old desks. It may seem simple, but having clean, functional, and appropriately sized tables made students feel valued and respected from the very first day.\r\n\r\nThe tables are now used every day across AP World History, 10th Grade World History, 7th Grade Medieval History, Academic Decathlon, and Academic Pentathlon. One especially memorable moment was during a collaborative AP World History document analysis activity, where students spread out their materials, worked together comfortably, and were far more engaged in discussion than before. The new setup encourages teamwork, movement, and communication in ways the previous tables simply could not support.\r\n\r\nAs we continue through the school year, these tables will remain the center of our classroom community—supporting group projects, historical simulations, competition preparation, and everyday learning. The USB mini fans were an instant hit with students, especially during warm afternoons and after PE. Students were so excited to plug them into their Chromebooks and immediately commented on how much more comfortable they felt during class. The disinfecting wipes have also been used constantly to help us maintain a clean and healthy classroom environment, especially during busy days with multiple classes and team practices.\r\n\r\nOne of the biggest impacts has come from the new colorful markers. Instead of only having the standard colors, students now have a wider variety to use for anchor charts, review games, collaborative activities, and visual notes. During a recent AP World History review activity, students created colorful historical timelines and comparison charts that made information much easier to organize and remember. The bright colors increased participation and creativity, and students took real pride in their work.\r\n\r\nAs we continue into the school year, these resources will keep supporting students across AP World History, World History, Medieval History, Academic Decathlon, and Academic Pentathlon. It made them feel special to know that there are community members out there who care about them and their educational experience.\r\n\r\nStudents have enjoyed using the new art materials already to illustrate beautiful holiday projects like Valentine's Day hearts for Día de San Valentín. They decorated Valentine's cards in the shape of hearts and put simple Spanish phrases in Spanish 1 or more complex poems or heartfelt expressions in Spanish 3.\r\n\r\nThese materials have been so hopeful not just for special holidays but also on a daily basis. For example, they are learning new phrases weekly by reading the inspirational Spanish signs that I change out on my whiteboard, like the one you see in the background of the photo of me reading a book. They have already used the dictionaries for written assignments, too. For weekly assessments, the pencils come in handy for scantrons and the testing dividers have been a nice upgrade.\r\n\r\nIn the coming weeks, I will be reading the children's books to Spanish 2 and 3 so they can learn new words. I would like to implement the art supplies for an upcoming vocabulary project in Spanish 3. Students will be learning about nature so I will ask them to draw a nature scene and label their drawing with new vocabulary words. In Spanish 1, we do art projects on a regular basis, so they will also have time to enjoy the new supplies that we really appreciate.","fullyFundedDate":1769177665463,"projectUrl":"project/learning-language-through-art/9805050/","projectTitle":"Learning Language Through Art!","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Sidley","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-6_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10305351"},{"teacherId":681999,"projectId":9784293,"letterContent":"Thanks to your generosity, our Academic Pentathlon students now have custom team shirts—and the pride they feel wearing them is absolutely priceless! Many of our Pentathlon team members are new to academic competition, and wearing a team shirt helps solidify their commitment and gives them a sense of belonging. It's amazing to see how something as simple as a shirt can uplift their confidence and motivation. They were very excited to brainstorm solutions to the problems using their new mobile white boards and very grateful for being able to visualize their solutions on a wider writing board rather than just on papers on their desks. They affirmed that the white boards provide them with ample space to work on their strategies and work out solutions to the problems more efficiently because all team members can spot check each one's work very easily. They were also able to work with the other group on the other side of the board or roll their board next to another group to discuss and compare strategies with them. They like the idea of taking turns to actively contribute to solving the problems. They wanted to always use the white boards on all their teamwork. What a wonderful experience for them!\r\n\r\nI am very pleased seeing how my traditional classroom quickly turned into a Thinking Classroom with the help of the Mobile Dry Erase Boards and the other writing materials that we received. I saw how a Thinking Classroom promotes active learning. My students were all engaged and eager to learn and contribute to their teams. It also saves me time and effort. I can give them immediate feedback as I can easily simultaneously see from one spot of the room the work of multiple teams. Awesome!
