I was waiting to write this letter until our field guide was completed... and it is now completed. And it is INCREDIBLE. Please let me share with you the impact of this project.\r\n\r\nThe class was titled Valley Naturalist. The students in this class were tasked with becoming naturalists, learning about the flora and fauna local to the Wenatchee Valley. What started out as a simple project evolved quickly into a true work of art that is now sought after in our community. Students went week-by-week, \"adopting\" and researching shrubs, trees, wildflowers, birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. They had so much fun getting to know these species. It was incredible to watch them go from knowing nothing, to being experts.\r\n\r\nThe real magic came when they started to paint. We utilized John Muir Laws' nature journaling videos and books to become better observers, good question askers, and developing nature artists. Some students took this very seriously and started nature journaling on their own on their days off of school. They really started to love learning about the natural world through nature journaling. The art they created is so beautiful.\r\n\r\nThis project is giving back to both our community and our school. We have passed out over 100 copies of the field guide since printing it just a few weeks ago. People continue to reach out to the school asking for one. It really is incredible to watch it ripple through the community here in the Wenatchee Valley. The students are so proud of the work they have done. This project is also giving back to our school! The $3.50 we profited off of each field guide is going to help us create our first ever school garden next year. This will help to continue learning about nature in a whole new way through plant science and ecosystems biology. \r\n\r\nAll of this would not have been possible without your generous donation. I thank you deeply for supporting education in the way that you have. My dream is to someday be able to take part in philanthropy in the way that you have. Thank you for being an inspiration to me and for enabling my students to complete this incredible project.\r\n\r\nI would LOVE to send you a copy of the field guide.
