The students and I were so excited to receive the gardening tools. It was late in the spring 2024 planting season in Somerton, AZ when we got the tools, but we decided to take a chance. The students selected the plants they wanted to grow and planted the seeds. Some of the seeds germinated but were not able to survive the heat. Even though it was hot outside and some of the seeds were not germinating, the students loved being outside tending to their seeds, seedlings and getting their hands dirty. \r\n\r\nThis year, the new sixth graders will put the gardening tools to good use. We are planning on two planting seasons, fall and spring. The first step is to get the soil ready for planting. The gardening area is clear, so the next step is to loosen the soil. Some students will use shovels to loosen the top ten inches of soil and other students will use hand tools to break up the soil. They will take turns. Once the soil is ready, we will plant the seeds and use the watering cans, hose and hose nozzle to water the seeds. It does get muddy, and the foot scrubbers will prevent students from bringing mud into the school. A nice outcome is that the younger students stop by and ask the older questions about the garden. Again, thank you for funding our project. It will make education more engaging and fun.","fullyFundedDate":1743028009181,"projectUrl":"project/learning-to-grow-your-own-food/9092175/","projectTitle":"Learning To Grow Your Own Food","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Moreno-Urquiza","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/3200066"},{"teacherId":2577097,"projectId":8952583,"letterContent":"We cannot thank you enough for your incredible support.
