Access to books is such an important part of school and learning. I want them to be surrounded by stories that teach them, entertain them, and help them to adjust to being in a classroom. Every child should feel represented in the books that we read and this is what these books help to do! \r\n\r\nMost of the books in this collection will be used for me to teach the students about something important like family, diversity, making friends, dealing with big emotions, and more. I read them the book, then we discuss and talk about how the story connects to their lives, and then do an activity or coloring page with it. The rest of the books have gone into their classroom library so that they are gaining familiarity with books, having exposure to words and pictures, and learning to love reading! \r\n\r\nThroughout the year I will be reading to them everyday and these amazing books, help me to read books that are current, at their level, and inspiring to them. The LEGOs have become a wonderful tool for building, problem-solving, and teamwork. One of our favorite classroom moments was watching students work together to design and build their own creations. They had to share ideas, make decisions, and sometimes revise their designs when something didn't work. The treasure box items have also been a great motivator for students and give them something special to look forward to after working hard or demonstrating positive classroom behaviors.\r\n\r\nWhen my students first saw the new materials, they were incredibly excited! Their faces lit up when they saw the LEGOs and all of the fun items in the treasure box. They immediately started talking about what they wanted to build and which treasure they hoped to earn. It was wonderful to see their excitement turn into collaboration, creativity, and purposeful learning. These resources have helped create a positive classroom environment where students feel motivated to participate and try their best.\r\n\r\nOur next steps are to continue using the LEGOs during classroom projects that encourage students to plan, build, test, and improve their creations. We will also continue using the treasure box to celebrate student effort, kindness, and accomplishments. I am excited to see how my students continue to use their imagination and problem-solving skills as they take on new challenges.
