Students rotate through activities that target main idea, sequencing, context clues, and summarizing. One of my favorite moments was when a group played the Inference Detective board game — students had to use clues from short passages to \"solve\" the story mystery, and they were so engaged they didn't even realize how much critical thinking they were practicing! The hands-on, game-based approach has made reading practice something my students look forward to every day.\r\n\r\nWhen the boxes arrived, the students' eyes lit up with excitement! They could hardly wait to open the games and explore. Many said things like, \"These look so fun!\" and \"Can we play right now?\" It was wonderful to see how motivated they were to practice reading in a new and exciting way. The colorful boards, cards, and interactive pieces immediately drew them in, creating a buzz of energy across the classroom.","fullyFundedDate":1754156355469,"projectUrl":"project/fun-engaging-reading-games-to-boost-li/9292391/","projectTitle":"Fun & Engaging Reading Games to Boost Literacy!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. H.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4132298_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1512695239592","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4132298"},{"teacherId":5614369,"projectId":9066499,"letterContent":"The excitement in my students eyes when I revealed all the goodies that were donated was the most magical scene I've ever seen. These students have been beyond motivated and constantly ask how they can earn more class money! They are completing their classwork, doing extra chores around campus, and attending school events. Students have never worked harder for me than this group! As soon as the materials arrived, I introduced them during our small-group reading time. Students rotated through literacy centers where they played comprehension board games, practiced vocabulary with card games, and worked independently with hands-on activities focused on sequencing and inference. One memorable moment was during a main idea board game—students were laughing, discussing story details, and genuinely collaborating to win the game. It was incredible to see how engaged they were while practicing such an essential skill.\r\n\r\nTheir reactions when the materials first arrived were priceless—wide eyes, big smiles, and lots of eager questions! Several students even asked if they could play the games during free time or indoor recess. For many of my struggling readers, these resources have provided a much-needed boost in confidence. Instead of feeling frustrated by traditional worksheets, they now look forward to reading time because it feels fun, active, and accessible.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we're working on a class reading challenge where students earn points by completing different literacy games and reflection activities. The goal is to strengthen comprehension and vocabulary through repetition and variety—two things these new resources support so well. Thank you again for helping us turn reading into a joyful, motivating experience for every learner in our classroom!","fullyFundedDate":1745846973576,"projectUrl":"project/fun-engaging-reading-games-to-boost-li/9171857/","projectTitle":"Fun & Engaging Reading Games to Boost Literacy!","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. H.","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/272x272/tp4132298_272x272.jpg?width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1512695239592","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4132298"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_33859","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":587,"numTeachers":28,"percentFrplEligible":75,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":1,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":96,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"Pre-K - 6","studentTeacherRatio":"21.0:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"SUBURBAN","ncesMetroType":"SUBURB_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":82.9,"schoolId":33859,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about U.S. Grant Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"U.S. Grant Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/california/colton-joint-unified-school-district/u-s-grant-elementary-school/33859"}
