We are in the middle of creating a solar classroom and the batteries, solar generator, solar lights and solar irrigation system is going to add years of learning for our kids. With your donations we have kicked off the renovations with demonstrations on how solar works, the energy we get from solar and how we can use our new technology with some of the projects we already engage in.\r\nWe are working with our local electricians and solar companies to put solar panels on the roof, mount a tv so kids can actually see the amount of energy both created and used in our room. The circuit kits we received through your generosity also provides students with hands on learning using batteries, wiring and lighting accessories. \r\nWe've used the solar generator several times with our cordless drill battery packs. Students are able to see the solar panels outside our 2nd floor window on racks our custodians built for us.","fullyFundedDate":1742486783304,"projectUrl":"project/our-steam-students-are-full-of-energy/9167057/","projectTitle":"Our STEAM Students Are Full of Energy!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Richmond","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-8_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9503035"},{"teacherId":9503035,"projectId":9159862,"letterContent":"My students were floored when they came in the first day and saw our shelves stocked with new materials! It's so nice to have these donations to show students that businesses believe in the work we do. Just the fact that we have enough supplies for each students to design and create on their own and take home sends a message to the parents that businesses care about the education their kids are receiving and that students are engaged.\r\nWith our new materials we were able to create new projects that our 6th graders may not have been able to with our school budget. The paint, white canvas boards and paper towels were an awesome piece of our first project. We did drip paintings and the kids loved them! This project is usually reserved for 6th graders but with having many extra supplies with these donations, I gave in and let the 5th graders enjoy them.\r\nThe only problem now is we set the bar pretty high in terms of projects we put out! I'll have to get creative myself and find some new ideas that will keep the kiddos engaged next year. Being organized really helps in getting the most time for engaging in our projects. The storage bins, surge protectors, zip ties, and pencils all play an important role in keeping things moving each day. Students can come in and go right to work without me having to set supplies out each day.\r\nWe do a lot of experiments, and the most talked about is our lava lamps. The vegetable oil is the one product we use the most. Having these supplies donated reduces the stress on me, trying to make sure we have enough for all 400 kids I see each year. We were getting low on supplies and we thought we may be sharing projects but once again 3M Gives came through for us. It was fun watching the students open the boxes, separate and begin to organize their new supplies.\r\nWe go through hundreds of pieces of cardboard during each Trimester and students love trying new designs. Having the many boxes of cardboard available allows students the feeling they can \"recreate\" without worrying about having enough materials. One of my students' favorite projects is the popsicle stick bridges students design, create and end up crushing in our competition. Students take great pride in being on of the last builders to see their design crushed! So fun to watch...\r\nThe glue sticks, string and scissors all are essential tools my students use daily in class. Your donation significantly helped increase the tools I have to assist students with emotional regulation. The fidgets, weighted stuffed animal, visual and tactile tools, and manipulatives were warmly received. Students have been able to utilize these items to help with focus, stress management, and emotional regulation. Students used the donated items throughout the spring. I am looking forward to having them available again next school year.\r\n\r\nThe interest and frequent utilization of the donated resources has further increased my interest in providing additional tools to students. Moving forward, I am looking to further my research into best practices for emotional regulation. My hope is to add more items to my calming corner to help students in times of need. One specific area I would like to focus on is the connection between our minds and bodies as it pertains to full body movement. This may include items that challenge balance, strength, and coordinated body movement.\r\n\r\nAgain, the students and I greatly appreciate your contribution. From what I've seen there's a great chance they'll see success in whatever I put in front of them. It's so nice not having to worry about how many materials we go through.
