As the teacher, I feel that canning is an important skill for students to learn. We live in a rural demographic where many people grow and/or hunt their own food. Having a way to make this food shelf stable for months to come is important. \r\n To keep things simple when learning, we started off by canning jam in our unit on food preservation. Students had the opportunity to learn the difference between water bath canning and pressure canning, how their elevation affects the time and how to make sure the food is preserved safely. Students made the jam using a simple strawberries, sugar and pectin recipe and were able to give some as gifts to their favorite teachers!\r\n Without the help of our donors, we would not be able to afford the canning supplies. Jars and lids are expensive and we have a limited budget in our classrooms to purchase items. We are extremely grateful for the donation that allowed us to have this unique opportunity. Hopefully students will take the skills they have learned and can food at home with their families! Thank you again for being so generous!","fullyFundedDate":1764718598455,"projectUrl":"project/canning-christmas-jam/9897417/","projectTitle":"Canning Christmas Jam","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Moose","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10351363"},{"teacherId":4943850,"projectId":9814798,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for contributing to our project, \"Instrument Supplies that Keep Students Engaged in Band!\" These basic supplies really make playing an instrument easier and more fun. \r\n\r\nUsing padded neck straps for all saxophones distributes the instrument's weight so much more evenly and without digging into student's necks. No more trying to hold the instrument up off their neck while playing because the strap hurts!\r\n\r\nTrombone grip handles have also really been a game changer for my students. The trombone is so much easier to hold, and the weight is distributed across the whole hand. Students no longer have to fight just to hold on!
