Until today, students shared little scissors to cut cardboard. We would ration tape, too, which limited how they could implement their creativity. Thanks to Big O Tire's donation, our students are able to cut any shape they wish with real tools, such a a saw and a scorer. They also use awls and screwdrivers to secure pieces together tight enough that they stay in place. The screw, bolts, anchors and hinges all allow for their great ideas to manifest.\r\n\r\nWorking in groups is more efficient and productive now that I have enough supplies for each student. One of the greatest moments was when a student said he would never be able to use such things at home, but thankfully he can use them at school. Their self efficacy skyrocketed, as well as their resilience. If they made a mistake, they were quick to try again, which is a rule of engineering. \r\n\r\nThe students are grateful to have tools that really work but are perfectly sized for them. Some students also discussed how these tools are precursors to adult construction tools and made connections to how such things are used in adult careers. They appreciated the efficiency and accuracy the tools provide them.
