While many people think of printers as simple tools for making copies, in our school setting it has become a dynamic piece of technology that is transforming the way my students learn and share their voices. In Japanese class, students are able to print vibrant practice materials, cultural projects, and even design posters that highlight their progress in the language. This hands-on connection to their work makes learning tangible and gives them a sense of ownership that digital screens alone cannot provide.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students most is the ability to create materials that look professional and meaningful. Members of the Black Student Alliance have used the printer to design and print flyers that celebrate cultural heritage months and invite their peers to important discussions. Similarly, the Fellowship of Christian Athletes has found joy in making posters and devotion sheets that spread encouragement across the school community. Students are proud to see their creativity displayed in hallways and classrooms, knowing they have the power to shape the culture of our school.\r\n\r\nSeveral students who don't always shine in traditional academic ways have especially warmed to this new technology. One quiet student in Japanese class lit up when she printed her carefully designed hiragana chart in full color—it became something she wanted to show others. In BSA, students who are passionate about social justice but less comfortable speaking up have found their voices through the posters they design and print. This printer has given them not only a tool, but a platform to share their identity, passions, and leadership with others.\r\n\r\nThank you for making this possible. Your support has provided much more than ink and paper—it has empowered students to learn, lead, and inspire.","fullyFundedDate":1723158338891,"projectUrl":"project/tjhs-japanese-language-lab/8567839/","projectTitle":"TJHS Japanese Language Lab","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-2_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9243723"},{"teacherId":5468088,"projectId":8732107,"letterContent":"This project has done so much for my class. We are able to accomplish things so much more easily than before and my students are thriving. This semester I implemented a functions project in which students needed to create a design using trig functions and their knowledge of trig transformations. Part of the project included them decorating the designs. In the past, students would have to bring their own markers and colored pencils to do such a thing. Many students do not have the means to be able to do that. So usually I would cut that part of the project which was a major blow. This Donors Choose Project however allowed me to unveil the brand new class set of colored pencils and markers and the kids were thrilled. The amount of \"ooohs\" and \"aaahs\" were really uplifting. They were able to make very beautiful designs that demonstrated their creativity and their mathematical grit and are now decorating my walls.\r\n\r\nI have also been able to do more poster team activities with these materials as well. This allows for more engaging lessons for my students and it allows me to have more exemplars to hang on the wall. Students are very grateful to have markers, tape, staples, which enhances their poster making.\r\n\r\nFinally, they love the social emotional support animals. There was a mad dash to claim the axolotls. Their names are Remmy and Max. They love to hold them or have them on their desks during testing and the students take comfort in them especially when they are feeling the pressure of the semester weighing down on them. We are now moving into Finals time and I know that each one of them will be claimed every period. I only wish I could have a class set so that everyone could have one.\r\n\r\nThank you once again for your generosity. I feel like this semester went so much better than in years past just because I didn't have to worry about supplies or have to modify my lesson because we didn't have access to the things that we needed. I also notice a change in my students. They seem happier in my class and for that I am eternally thankful.","fullyFundedDate":1725318014278,"projectUrl":"project/building-community-through-creativity-an/8732107/","projectTitle":"Building Community Through Creativity and Social Emotional Learning","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Fitzgerald","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5468088_orig.png?crop=468,468,x0,y9&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1693249723011","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/5468088"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_41587","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":1390,"numTeachers":60,"percentFrplEligible":61,"percentAsian":3,"percentBlack":17,"percentWhite":32,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":38,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"9 - 12","studentTeacherRatio":"23.2:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":false,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_LARGE"},"inStateSupporters":48.5,"schoolId":41587,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Thomas Jefferson High School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Thomas Jefferson High School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/colorado/denver-public-school-district-1/thomas-jefferson-high-school/41587"}
