In the pictures you can see howthe students put the flies to sleep so they could look at them under the microscope to determine if they are male or female. They put three males with one trait into a vial with three females of another type. \r\n\r\nThe fruit flies are now busy breeding, and in a week or so, the students will put the next generation (F1) to sleep to see what traits they inherited. We will put some of the F1 males and females into a new vial to make the F2 generation to see what traits they inherite. \r\n\r\nThe students will collect and analyze data to learn about dominant, recessive, and x-linked traits as well as how to read pedigrees. In addition, they learned about the life cycle that many insects go through. The hands-on activities are much more memorable than learning through a lecture. Thank you again for your generosity!","fullyFundedDate":1768250585960,"projectUrl":"project/discovering-inheritance-with-fruit-flies/9978773/","projectTitle":"Discovering Inheritance With Fruit Flies","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Frack","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8428752_orig.jpg?crop=596,596,x339,y85&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1659657531013","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8428752"},{"teacherId":10385207,"projectId":9960551,"letterContent":"Receiving an iPad through DonorsChoose has had a meaningful impact on my classroom instruction. It allows me to easily write notes and work through example problems in real time, just as I would on a traditional board, but with the added benefit of being able to instantly share those materials with students. After class, I can quickly upload the notes and examples directly to our class website or to Canvas so students can review them whenever they need. This has been especially helpful for students who were absent, need extra time to process new concepts, or want to revisit worked examples while completing homework.\r\n\r\nThe iPad also helps me present information in a more engaging and accessible way. I can color-code steps in a problem, highlight key ideas, and visually organize information to make complex concepts clearer. This approach supports visual learners and helps students better follow the reasoning behind each step. Being able to combine clear explanations with organized, colorful visuals has improved how students interact with the material and gives them a helpful resource they can reference long after the lesson ends.","fullyFundedDate":1768250585988,"projectUrl":"project/tech-integration-for-a-physics-classroom/9960551/","projectTitle":"Tech Integration for a Physics Classroom","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Meyer","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-4_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10385207"},{"teacherId":3501010,"projectId":9878471,"letterContent":"Thank you again, Heads Up Foundation for donating to this project for an iPad in my classroom! The new materials have truly transformed our studio space and given my students the opportunity to explore their creativity like never before. When they first saw the new tools and supplies, their excitement was undeniable—students immediately began discussing project ideas and couldn't wait to get their hands in the clay. For many, this was their first time working with high-quality materials, and the difference in their confidence and enthusiasm was incredible.\r\n\r\nOne of our first projects with these new resources was a coil pottery assignment, where students designed and built their own functional ceramic pieces. With access to new carving tools and glazes, they were able to add intricate details and experiment with surface textures in ways that weren't possible before. Seeing their pride as they pulled their finished pieces from the kiln was a truly special moment.\r\n\r\nMoving forward, we'll be using these materials to explore more advanced techniques, such as slab construction and glazing experiments. These experiences will help my students refine their skills and develop a deeper appreciation for ceramics as both an art form and a craft.
