It provides skill assessment in English and Spanish and provides video examples or step by step examples. There is a skill plan that is directly aligned to our curriculum so I can make recommendations to students based on what we learned in class. Each week, I create a leaderboard and students make the leaderboard by becoming proficient in new skills. They need to earn an 80 to be considered proficient. They start at 0 and build their score up, but if they get problems wrong, it adversely affects their scores. It allows me another way to monitor their understanding and allows their parents access to see how the material is being taught and what they are workin on. In addition, it can be used on phones so virtually all of my students have access. If they become proficient in 5 skills in a week, they go onto our Math Hall of Fame in the hallway and earn the awesome prizes that you have generously helped purchase for them. They love the bouncy balls, fidget spinners, poppits and other small toys.\r\nI have seen the improvement in their multiplication skills and it correlates nicely to the curriculm we are using. That's awesome!! :) They work in class and then they are able to practice using the same strategies at home, including examples and videos so their parents can see what they are learning! On top of that, they are getting prizes! They are loving it and their skills are improving greatly. \r\nI just want to thank all of my donors for their generosity. I would not be able to provide prizes nearly as good without your support and magnanimity. Your contribution has not only provided new resources but has also fostered a crucial new level of agency and emotional well-wellbeing for my students.\r\nThe new Sensory Corner is already a cornerstone of our classroom's social-emotional learning and self-regulation strategy. Students with autism and other diverse disabilities now have a reliable, calming space to go to when they feel overwhelmed, anxious, or frustrated.\r\nWe've taught the students how to recognize the initial signs of their emotions escalating and how to use the corner as a proactive self-regulation tool. They're learning to make a choice—to take a \"sensory break\"—which is a huge step in developing agency.\r\nA specific moment that highlights the corner's power happened just last week. One of my students, who typically struggles with transitions, began to show signs of distress during a switch from math to reading. Instead of waiting for an adult to intervene, he independently signed, \"break,\" and calmly walked to the corner. He spent about three minutes with the weighted blanket and the fidget items, took a few deep breaths, and then came back to his desk ready to focus on the next class. This wasn't just de-escalation; it was a demonstration of him taking responsibility for his emotional state and successfully managing it. This kind of independent action is exactly what we strive for!","fullyFundedDate":1749850088498,"projectUrl":"project/basking-with-red-eared-turtles/9301172/","projectTitle":"Basking With Red-Eared Turtles","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Jackson","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp4739851_orig.jpg?crop=2618,2618,x0,y305&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746640598989","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/4739851"},{"teacherId":9402710,"projectId":9239882,"letterContent":"It has only been a few days since I received all the material requested for my Read to a Dragon project, and already the impact has been huge.
