Many of my students receive speech and language services and have language-based learning challenges that can make complex texts overwhelming. The leveled articles, vocabulary supports, and high-interest topics have allowed us to introduce essential skills—like identifying main ideas, analyzing text features, summarizing, and making inferences—in a way that feels accessible instead of intimidating. Students are using the magazine to build real-world background knowledge while also practicing the academic language strategies they need to succeed across subjects.\r\n\r\nIn our classroom, reading has become more interactive and joyful. Students preview articles using photos and captions, annotate with targeted vocabulary supports, and discuss current events using sentence starters and graphic organizers that connect directly to our speech-language goals. The mix of print and digital features has also been incredibly motivating; many students who typically avoid reading independently are now eager to log in, listen to the read-aloud feature, and explore topics that interest them—from global issues to social justice to science. These supports help them participate confidently in discussions, express their ideas more clearly, and strengthen both their comprehension and expressive language skills.\r\n\r\nA few students who often struggle with nonfiction have shown remarkable growth in just a short time. One student who usually hesitates to read aloud now volunteers to share key details after using the vocabulary pop-ups. Another student who works hard on inferencing proudly explained how the article's text structure helped them understand the author's point of view. Moments like these remind us how powerful the right resources can be. Thanks to you, my students feel more capable, more engaged, and more connected to the world around them. Your support is directly building their confidence as readers, thinkers, and communicators—and we are so grateful.","fullyFundedDate":1758898920098,"projectUrl":"project/making-news-accessible-for-all-learners/9451542/","projectTitle":"Making News Accessible for All Learners","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Napchan","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9593560_orig.jpg?crop=1643,1643,x1098,y1098&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1721066575468","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9593560"},{"teacherId":1578279,"projectId":9050034,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom! The materials you helped provide—colored paper, highlighters, and clothespins—have added both energy and functionality to our learning environment. The colored paper has transformed our classroom walls into a vibrant gallery of student thinking, with anchor charts, visual aids, and student-created posters brightening the space and reinforcing key concepts. The highlighters have become a favorite tool for close reading and annotating texts; during a recent poetry unit, students eagerly used them to mark literary devices and key phrases, sparking deeper discussion and analysis. The clothespins have made it easy to hang and rotate student work regularly, which has helped foster a real sense of pride and ownership in their learning.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their eyes lit up. They were especially excited about the different colors of paper and how their ideas could now \"pop\" off the walls. One student even said, \"It feels like our work matters more now that it's up for everyone to see!\" That kind of motivation is priceless. Thanks to your donations, my students now have access to healthy, energizing snacks during our afterschool program. These snacks have become a vital part of our daily routine—fueling students' focus, improving their mood, and helping them stay engaged through the end of a long school day. One memorable moment was during a science experiment where students were building small circuits. Normally, by that hour they would be dragging, but with a quick snack break, their energy was noticeably higher, and their collaboration and excitement soared. One student said, \"I think better when I'm not hungry!\"—a simple but powerful reminder of the impact you've made.\r\n\r\nWhen the snack boxes first arrived, students lit up with excitement. For many, this small gesture meant more than just food—it showed that people outside our classroom cared about their well-being. As we continue working on projects like building models, coding basic programs, and creating student-led presentations, having snacks available means students can focus on learning rather than hunger. The next step for us is preparing for a mini showcase where students will present what they've built or created during our club time. Because of your support, they'll be well-fed, confident, and ready to shine. For many of my students with language impairments, having access to their own reliable, dedicated device makes all the difference.\r\n\r\nThe Lenovo laptop has been incredibly helpful during small-group sessions. Students now have access to digital tools like speech-to-text software, vocabulary-building apps, and web-based learning platforms we previously couldn't run effectively on outdated devices. One student in particular, who struggles with slow processing and written expression, now uses the laptop to plan and type out responses using Google Docs with predictive text and grammar assistance. This has helped him feel more confident and independent in completing his assignments.\r\n\r\nThe USB-C adapter has made it possible to connect the laptop to our classroom monitor for group activities and collaborative editing, allowing students to view their work on a larger screen. It has also helped us seamlessly use flash drives and multimedia tools that otherwise wouldn't connect to the laptop. This flexibility makes tech integration smooth and stress-free.\r\n\r\nThe Harfoowo Bluetooth mouse may seem like a small addition, but it has made a big impact—especially for students who find touchpads frustrating or difficult to control. The ergonomic design and ease of use have helped one student with motor coordination challenges navigate the screen with more accuracy and less anxiety.\r\n\r\nThese tools are more than just equipment—they are bridges to confidence, independence, and deeper learning. The new materials and technology have had a powerful impact on my students—especially those with language-based learning needs.\r\n\r\nThe Logitech Folio Touch iPad Keyboard Case has been a game changer for my students who struggle with fine motor skills or written expression. Now, they can type responses more efficiently, use the built-in trackpad for navigation, and feel more confident when completing reading and writing assignments. One of my 11th-grade students, who previously avoided writing tasks, now volunteers to draft responses using the keyboard case—something that would have felt overwhelming to him just a few months ago.\r\n\r\nThe Teachers Pay Teachers gift cards have allowed me to download fresh, high-quality educational resources tailored to the unique needs of my students. From speech therapy games to scaffolded writing prompts and visual aids, these resources help me provide targeted support that feels both fun and purposeful. The students are especially excited about interactive task cards and visual organizers—they frequently ask, \"Can we do more of those?\"\r\n\r\nOrganization has also greatly improved with the magnetic file holders, which we use on our whiteboard and filing cabinets to store daily materials, visual schedules, and activity prompts. Students have become more independent in grabbing what they need for each session, which helps maximize our instructional time and build executive functioning skills.\r\n\r\nThe laminating sheets and rotary trimmer allow me to create durable, reusable materials that can withstand daily handling and be easily sanitized. My visual learners benefit from clear, sturdy task visuals, and I'm able to create custom sentence-building cards, vocabulary games, and reading fluency strips that are used across multiple sessions.\r\n\r\nMost exciting of all is watching students take ownership of their learning. With the tools you helped provide, they're more engaged, more organized, and more confident in their abilities. Your contribution has had a profound and immediate impact on our classroom environment, and I am deeply grateful for your support.\r\n\r\nThe day the materials arrived, my students could barely contain their excitement. As we unpacked each item—binders, folders, pens, pencils, snacks, and even the charging station—they gathered around, asking questions and making plans for how they would use everything. It was like watching a group of young professionals set up their own workspaces. One student, who often struggles with organization, excitedly chose a blue binder and said, \"This is for me? I am going to use this everyday!\" For a student who had previously come to class with crumpled handouts and no writing utensils, this was a huge step forward in developing independence and self-confidence.\r\n\r\nSince receiving the materials, we've implemented them as part of our executive functioning routine. Each student was given a binder outfitted with dividers and a pencil pouch. These binders now serve as their \"command center\" for tracking assignments, goals, and class notes. We've established a weekly routine where students organize their binders, file papers into the correct sections, and update their to-do lists. This consistency has not only helped students manage their academic responsibilities, but it's also given them a sense of ownership over their learning.\r\n\r\nThe writing supplies have been equally valuable. The mechanical pencils and pens are available during class and in our \"Take What You Need\" station, where students can borrow or keep items if they're running low on supplies at home. This has helped reduce anxiety and embarrassment among students who may not always have access to basic materials. Having the right tools within reach has increased participation, especially during writing-intensive activities. Students are more engaged, prepared, and motivated to contribute their thoughts because they feel set up for success.\r\n\r\nThe snack bars and breakfast treats have also played an important role in supporting students' focus and energy. Many of my students come to school without having eaten breakfast, which makes it hard for them to concentrate. Providing a small, nutritious snack in the morning or during long work periods has made a noticeable difference in their stamina and mood. One student commented, \"These snacks help me get through the day—I don't feel as tired or distracted in class.\" For students managing stress, hunger, and academic pressure all at once, this small act of care has meant so much.\r\n\r\nIn the coming weeks, we are using these materials to support a long-term classroom project that involves planning and executing group presentations. Students will use their binders to outline their roles, track deadlines, and collect research. They'll use their writing tools to draft scripts, write reflections, and give peer feedback. The executive functioning skills we are developing—such as time management, organization, and task completion—will be critical as they prepare for high school exams and post-secondary goals.\r\n\r\nYour generosity has not only equipped my students with physical materials but has also sent a powerful message: their success matters, and they are worth investing in. Thanks to your support, our students now have a powerful tool that is enhancing their learning in ways I never imagined possible. I wanted to take a moment to share how this new technology is making a real difference in our classroom.\r\n\r\nFor many of our students, this is their first experience using such advanced technology as part of their daily learning routine. The iPad has opened up so many exciting opportunities for engagement, creativity, and collaboration. It allows us to integrate interactive apps that make abstract concepts in math come to life. Whether it's using math apps to explore 3D shapes or accessing virtual graphing tools to visualize angles and transformations, students are able to interact with math in a more hands-on and dynamic way. This is especially impactful in subjects like Algebra I and Geometry, where visualization and spatial reasoning are crucial.\r\n\r\nWhat excites my students the most about the iPad is the ability to personalize their learning. With the device, they can work at their own pace, watch instructional videos, and even take virtual quizzes to test their understanding. This has been a game-changer for students who need a little extra help or for those who are ready to dive deeper into the material. One of my students, in particular, has flourished with the iPad. They have always struggled with math, but now, thanks to interactive math games and tutorials on the device, they are much more confident and enthusiastic about solving problems. The iPad has made learning feel more accessible, and this student is no longer afraid to engage with difficult concepts.\r\n\r\nThanks to your generous donation, we are able to create an even more enriched and personalized learning environment for all of our students. This tool is helping them develop critical digital literacy skills and giving them the confidence to take ownership of their learning.
