At the start of each class, students place their phones in a designated slot, which has done a TON for engagement and productivity. One powerful moment came during a recent creative nonfiction lesson, when students were fully engaged in drafting personal narratives without the usual distractions. As a result, classroom conversations flowed naturally. The locker has supported a shift toward a more present and collaborative classroom culture.\r\n\r\nWhen students first saw the materials, their reactions were a mix of curiosity and hesitation, and honestly some fear. Some were unsure about being separated from their phones, but after just a few days, many expressed that they actually appreciated the structure. Several students mentioned that it felt easier to concentrate and less stressful not to feel the pull of notifications. Over time, the routine has become normalized, and students now enter the classroom and place their phones in the locker without too much prompting.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, students will continue developing their creative nonfiction pieces, moving from drafting into revision and eventually school-wide publication. With fewer distractions, they are better able to engage in peer feedback workshops, small group conferences, and reflective writing activities. Our next step is a storytelling project where students will refine one personal narrative for a final presentation, focusing on voice, detail, and authenticity. The cell phone locker will continue to support this work by helping students stay present, take creative risks, and fully invest in the storytelling process.","fullyFundedDate":1762365256387,"projectUrl":"project/no-mo-distraction/9873963/","projectTitle":"No-Mo' Distraction","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Anders","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10104475_orig.jpg?crop=3024,3024,x510,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1762280618064","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10104475"},{"teacherId":9240856,"projectId":9059697,"letterContent":"We're funded!
