It helps students focus, regulate their energy, and feel safe enough to take academic risks, whether they're reading aloud or tackling a new challenge.\r\n\r\nWe've been using the reading games to build fluency and confidence by turning phonics, vocabulary, and comprehension practice into fun, fast-paced rounds where everyone participates. Our STEM and logic games have encouraged problem-solving and perseverance—key skills that my students are beginning to show not only during math and science lessons but across all subjects. The puzzles and pattern blocks have strengthened spatial reasoning and teamwork, with students eagerly taking turns and cheering each other on as they complete new designs.\r\n\r\nThese resources have truly transformed our classroom into a \"learn-by-playing\" lab. They have also loved the new books series that were added and fun to hear conversations about the books that they are reading!\r\nSome of the new organizing materials have helped create new systems for the students to use throughout the day to keep track of materials and supplies and made some day to say activities easier. The new desks give us flexibility—we can arrange them for small-group discussions, line them up for testing, or cluster them for projects.\r\n\r\nOne of the first projects we used the desks for was our writing workshop. Students spread out their drafts, shared ideas with partners, and proudly told me how much easier it was to focus. I'll never forget one student saying, \"It feels like a real classroom now.\" That sense of pride and belonging has already translated into stronger engagement and more collaboration.\r\n\r\nLooking ahead, we'll be using these desks daily for reading groups, math rotations, and science labs. Having reliable furniture has freed us to think bigger about how we structure lessons and encourage teamwork. These games give my students a fun way to practice turn taking, problem solving, and social skills, all while building friendships.\r\n\r\nThe snacks and popcorn have been perfect motivators for our daily work and for special events, like our Friday movie reward. My students are especially motivated by the fruit snacks and veggie straws, and it's been a great way to tie positive behavior and effort to immediate, kid friendly rewards.\r\n\r\nThe pencils and glue sticks were just as exciting in their own way, students loved having brand new sharpened pencils ready to go, and we've already put the glue sticks to use in an art project where each student created their own \"green zone\" poster to remind us of our goals for calm and focused learning.\r\n\r\nThanks to these donations, our classroom feels even more like a community space where learning and fun go hand in hand. We now begin small-group blocks with a quick \"community snack,\" where students practice asking politely, offering to others, and cleaning up together. The predictable routine lowers anxiety, increases focus, and sets us up for success.\r\n\r\nWe're also weaving the snacks into academics and life skills. Students read nutrition labels and compare serving sizes, sort and tally wrappers for a class bar graph, and use arrays with pretzel sticks to model multiplication. During a recent writing lesson, one of my fourth graders who usually struggles to get started wrote a full paragraph describing his \"perfect brain-boost snack\" after our tasting chart activity. These tools will allow them to learn and deepen their learning in a fun way. \r\nAlso in this project is Lego kits that students can create and reuse over and over again. At the end of the day if students have finished work they can have stem bin time and these are going to be available for them to grab. I have a few boys who love Legos and know they will are going to be so excited to build and create with these. We also are lucky to have some amazing volunteers on a weekly basis and with some new math games for both addition and subtraction will get some practice on this important skill before moving to 3rd grade. Already have seen such a benefit for students to use them and regulate and be able to rejoin the instruction after calming down.
