My students have been enjoying learning about color and watercolors and are excited to learn more about great artist and how they use color to express their own thoughts and emotions. We are currently completing a color wheel of their own interest and have been using the new brushes to apply different techniques. \r\n\r\nA few weeks ago I mentioned to my students, I wanted them to learn about color using more of a hands on approach. Due to this I was going to find a way to gather them material we normally don't work with in a beginners art class. When the material arrived I informed my students we were fortunate enough to get some watercolors, their faces automatically lit up. Then a student asked, so are we going to have share these as we have to share our other supplies? When I said I had enough for everyone to have a watercolor pallet of their own their energy shifted to joy. Having their own material and tools to work with really teaches the students responsibility and it shows when they have taken so much care with their supplies they still look new. \r\n\r\nHaving this experience working with watercolor is really going to prepare them for our next steps in art. We will move onto learning about Georgia O'Keeffe and her color mixing techniques and recreate a great artist study. This will eventually lead my students to experiment with media and combine media they would normally not consider working together. I can't wait to see the progress they make, and the reflections they'll make about their own progress.","fullyFundedDate":1769177371961,"projectUrl":"project/creativity-and-critical-thinking-with-wa/10008793/","projectTitle":"Creativity and Critical Thinking with Watercolors","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Lopez","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9476490_orig.png?crop=398,398,x0,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1709670046673","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9476490"},{"teacherId":9476490,"projectId":9616034,"letterContent":"Thank you for allowing me to give all my students the ability to make learning fun! With your donation we were able to make Art Reviews in the classroom challenging and engaging by creating gaming experiences related to content. With the new buzzers I was able to allow the students the ability to buzz in their responses as a group instead of guessing who had the correct response. They really enjoyed being able to buzz in to provide their responses just as they see on TV and now keep asking for more opportunities to play games in our lessons.\r\n\r\nWhen I first showed the kids the buzzers they were so excited to play with them, so excited they wouldn't stop buzzing in prior to the games starting. The fact that they not only make a sound but also change colors when a person presses the button made them so much easier to use. I was able to set them in the middle of the table groups and while engaging in a vocabulary review they became so competitive and made it a mission to win each round. As we are now finishing a new unit I want to have fun with them and the buzzers so we will be challenging each other in a round of name the artist/style of Art!
