Fidgets help students manage stress and maintain focus without disrupting the class. Books provide a calm escape and encourage positive engagement with learning. Prizes motivate and reinforce good behavior and effort, promoting a sense of achievement and belonging. Together, these tools foster a respectful, inclusive space where students feel comfortable and encouraged to participate. For example, the students get a structured play break in my office to reset their learning and provide a break for classroom work. They also get the chance to earn the prize box for good behaviors in and around our school. The students that I work with were so excited to see all the things they get to earn in my office. Training staff and students on the purpose and respectful use of these tools to ensure they support, not distract. The next steps for this project would be to training staff and students on the purpose and respectful use of these tools to ensure they support, not distract, and gather regular feedback from students to adjust and improve the environment continuously.","fullyFundedDate":1757014203612,"projectUrl":"project/safe-space/9656889/","projectTitle":"Safe Space","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Carpenter","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://cdn.donorschoose.net/images/placeholder-avatars/272/teacher-placeholder-10_272.png?auto=webp","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10227679"},{"teacherId":7474097,"projectId":9461175,"letterContent":"I want to extend my deepest gratitude for your generous donation to our classroom project on DonorsChoose. Thanks to your support, we were able to add new games, books, and supplies that are already having a profound impact on our students' learning and growth.\r\n\r\nAs an educator, it's always been my goal to create a classroom environment that fosters curiosity, creativity, and a love for learning. But, as you may know, many schools face challenges when it comes to providing resources that truly engage students and meet their diverse needs. Your donation has changed that for our class.\r\n\r\nThe books you helped provide have not only expanded our classroom library, but they've also opened doors to new worlds and ideas. Our students now have access to stories that reflect their own experiences and others that spark their imaginations. \r\n\r\nThe games you funded have transformed learning into something that feels less like a task and more like a fun, collaborative experience. Educational games that challenge our students' problem-solving abilities and help them develop important skills—like teamwork, critical thinking, and communication—have become a classroom favorite. The joy and enthusiasm they bring to their work have been truly inspiring. \r\n\r\nAdditionally, the supplies you contributed have helped create an organized and more dynamic learning environment. The extra materials have allowed us to implement more hands-on projects, give students more individualized attention, and cater to different learning styles. \r\n\r\nSeeing their faces light up when they get to read a new book, play a new game, or start a new project is priceless. It's moments like these that make all the hard work worthwhile. Your donation has made it possible for us to offer these enriching experiences, and for that, we are deeply grateful.\r\n\r\nOn behalf of all of our students and myself, I want to say thank you again for your kindness and generosity. You've made a lasting difference in the lives of these children, and we will always remember the impact you've had on our learning community.","fullyFundedDate":1757014129480,"projectUrl":"project/classroom-essentials/9461175/","projectTitle":"Classroom Essentials","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. McCullough","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp7474097_orig.jpg?crop=989,989,x0,y56&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1683219537142","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/7474097"},{"teacherId":2509327,"projectId":9170883,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for the generous offer of the Keva Planks to our classroom. Palacio. The impact of this gift has been truly remarkable, both in terms of the students' reading engagement and their personal growth.\r\n\r\nOur students found the story of Auggie Pullman to be both relatable and inspiring. Through Auggie's journey of overcoming challenges and embracing kindness, students have been able to engage in deep, meaningful discussions about empathy, acceptance, and the importance of understanding differences. These themes have resonated with many of our students, sparking conversations about how we can all contribute to making our school community more inclusive and compassionate.\r\n\r\nAcademically, Wonder provided a rich opportunity to strengthen students' reading comprehension skills. As we progressed through the book, I designed lessons that focused on analyzing character development, understanding the significance of point of view, and making inferences about characters' motivations. By examining Auggie's experiences through the perspectives of different characters, students were able to practice critical thinking and develop a deeper understanding of how narrative structure and perspective can influence storytelling.\r\n\r\nAs part of our ongoing exploration of the themes in Wonder, students created artwork that reflected positive qualities about themselves, such as kindness, courage, and empathy. This creative project allowed them to visualize their strengths and express their unique qualities in a supportive and reflective way. Additionally, students wrote notes of kindness to one another, sharing words of encouragement and appreciation. These notes not only helped build a stronger sense of community within the classroom but also reinforced the powerful message of Wonder—that small acts of kindness can make a big difference. Through these activities, students practiced the values of self-respect, empathy, and compassion, which have become integral parts of our classroom culture.\r\n\r\nIn addition to the social and academic lessons, reading Wonder inspired students to reflect on their own lives and how they can make a positive impact on others. They learned that even small acts of kindness can have a profound effect, helping to build a more compassionate school community. \r\n\r\nThank you again for making this incredible learning opportunity possible. Your support has had a lasting impact on my students' growth, both academically and personally, and we are deeply grateful for your contribution to their education.","fullyFundedDate":1735933337700,"projectUrl":"project/empathy-in-action-promoting-kindness-an/9012640/","projectTitle":"Empathy in Action: Promoting Kindness and Inclusivity through \"Wonder\"","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Henrie","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp9878496_orig.jpg?crop=200,200,x0,y25&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1734564720169","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/9878496"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_42291","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":371,"numTeachers":23,"percentFrplEligible":41,"percentAsian":1,"percentBlack":7,"percentWhite":72,"percentIndigenous":0,"percentLatinx":12,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"K - 5","studentTeacherRatio":"16.1:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":false,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"URBAN","ncesMetroType":"CITY_MIDSIZE"},"inStateSupporters":59.6,"schoolId":42291,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Summerwind Elementary School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Summerwind Elementary School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/idaho/west-ada-school-district-/summerwind-elementary-school/42291"}
