Your generosity has provided my students with meaningful, hands-on opportunities to practice skills they will use in the workplace and throughout their adult lives. My students were so excited to see the new supplies and begin putting their skills into action. They are learning to use the cash register, count money and make change, take and fill orders, prepare drinks, and serve customers. It has been wonderful to watch them take pride in their work and realize that the skills we practice in the classroom have a real purpose.\r\n\r\nThe Eagles Café is about so much more than coffee and hot cocoa. Every order gives my students an opportunity to practice communication, teamwork, customer service, problem-solving, organization, responsibility, and financial literacy. They are also learning important workplace expectations such as arriving prepared, following multi-step directions, maintaining a clean workspace, managing supplies, and asking for help appropriately. For students who learn best through hands-on experiences, having an authentic workplace right inside our school makes learning meaningful and helps build confidence and independence.\r\n\r\nOur next step is to continue expanding the Eagles Café as part of our S.O.A.R. program—**Students Obtaining Adult Readiness**—and provide students with even more opportunities to practice employment skills. The skills they develop through the café will prepare them for community-based work experiences and our Job Olympics, where they can demonstrate what they have learned. Profits from the café will also be reinvested into student learning through additional classroom materials, Job Olympics opportunities, and field trips focused on real-world career experiences.
