Our students are taking pride in helping one another. The conversations that are happening around the table while students pack bags of supplies together are heartwarming. The students are working on executive functioning skills, social skills, functional math, functional literacy but the greatest impact is the sense of community. Students are taking the time to pack the bags with items they themselves would enjoy, ensuring each bag gets every crucial supply. They are brainstorming ways to gather more items and how to fund this project into the future. The bags of items are handed out discreetly with teachers and staff reporting students receiving items with such a sense of relief and gratitude. They are able to go into long weekends and school vacations with the assurance that there is something there to eat, something to brush their teeth with, soap, deodorant and so much more.
