Students also loved using the materials to play punctuation, capitalization, and parts of speech games that reinforced important language skills in a fun way.\r\n\r\nOne of their favorite activities was learning R blends—such a challenging concept in first grade! Because of you, my students were able to experience science in the most exciting and meaningful way—by watching real insects grow, change, and come to life right before their eyes.\r\n\r\nWith our butterfly kit from Insect Lore, we observed tiny larvae transform into chrysalises and then emerge as beautiful butterflies. The children were amazed as they watched the butterflies sip nectar from oranges with their proboscis, and they were thrilled to gently hold the butterflies before releasing them into nature. Each student had the opportunity to take a photo with a butterfly, creating a memory they will never forget.\r\n\r\nWe also followed the life cycle of ladybugs—from larva to bright pink adults! The students were fascinated as we fed them moist raisins and then released them to help the plants in our environment by eating aphids. Watching the ants build tunnels in their gel habitat was another favorite experience. The fact that this same type of kit is used by astronauts in space made our learning feel even more special and inspiring.\r\n\r\nThanks to the Teachers Pay Teachers gift card, we were able to extend our learning even further. The insect plays helped strengthen reading fluency and comprehension while keeping learning joyful and engaging. The ladybug diorama and life cycle activities helped students deepen their understanding of metamorphosis, write about each stage, and build real scientific knowledge.\r\n\r\nYour generosity brought curiosity, joy, wonder, and hands-on learning into our classroom.
