The middle school program, in particular, saw marked improvements in student motivation and performance after implementing a system of immediate feedback on running times. Students eagerly tracked their progress on the two-mile nature trail course, and the majority experienced significant speed increases, resulting in substantial confidence gains. This positive reinforcement of time improvement at each practice proved highly motivating. The middle school team's achievements culminated in a trip to Craig, Alaska to compete against other Southeast Alaska schools. The boys' race included over 70 runners, while the girls' race featured over 30. Impressively, one of our middle school boys placed fourth, and one of our girls earned first place. Our runners were proud of their individual and team accomplishments. The middle school students are already expressing enthusiasm for the next season.\r\n\r\nThe timers have proven invaluable to our high school program, particularly during weekly practices focused on speed, strength, pace, and stride development. The head coach leverages data from the timers to provide individualized feedback on running times and to facilitate the establishment and measurement of personalized performance goals. This fall, runners on our girls' and boys' teams qualified for the state championship. Looking ahead, we are excited to host a regional meet for Southeast Alaska schools in Wrangell in the fall of 2026 and anticipate utilizing our new timing resources for this event.","fullyFundedDate":1725813615689,"projectUrl":"project/run-your-way-to-wellness/8672435/","projectTitle":"Run Your Way to Wellness","teacherDisplayName":"Mrs. Laura Davies","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp5320337_orig.jpg?crop=2691,2691,x2685,y0&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1690828900301","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/laura-davies-wrangell"}],"pageName":"schoolpage_59004","usesDonorsChoose":true,"infoPageType":"school","demographicsInfo":{"numStudents":69,"numTeachers":5,"percentFrplEligible":3,"percentAsian":0,"percentBlack":1,"percentWhite":43,"percentIndigenous":47,"percentLatinx":1,"showFreeAndReducedPriceLunchInfo":true,"showDemographicsInfo":true,"sourceTooltipString":"the National Center for Education Statistics","gradesServed":"6 - 8","studentTeacherRatio":"13.8:1","demographicsDataSource":"MDR School","equityFocus":true,"titleOne":true,"metroType":"RURAL","ncesMetroType":"RURAL_REMOTE"},"inStateSupporters":67.4,"schoolId":59004,"financialInfo":null,"twitterShareText":"Learn more about Stikine Middle School on @DonorsChoose:","schoolName":"Stikine Middle School","canonicalPageUrl":"schools/alaska/wrangell-public-schools/stikine-middle-school/59004"}
