The dice have quickly become a favorite tool—they use them to practice addition and multiplication fluency through fun, fast-paced games that keep them engaged and excited to learn. What used to feel like routine practice now feels like a challenge they look forward to each day.\r\n\r\nThe fraction tiles have also had a tremendous impact on our current unit. We are still working on understanding equivalent fractions, and being able to see and manipulate the pieces has helped students grasp concepts that can be difficult to visualize. All of the other materials you provided have been incredibly useful as well; I just wanted to highlight a few that have been especially impactful this month. On behalf of my second-graders, thank you so much for your generosity! Here's a look at how your contributions have made a difference.\r\n\r\nA Safe and Welcoming Space to Learn\r\nYour donations have helped us create a classroom that feels secure and organized. The cleaning wipes have become an essential part of our daily routine, allowing students to take ownership of keeping their space tidy and healthy. We use the organizers to keep our supplies neat and easy to find, which helps reduce clutter and distraction. This organized, clean environment has made a huge difference in helping my students focus and feel comfortable, giving them the freedom to explore and learn without unnecessary stress.\r\n\r\nMaking Learning Fun and Engaging\r\nThe educational manipulatives and hands-on games you provided have revolutionized how we approach core subjects. \r\n\r\nWhen the students first saw all the new materials, their eyes lit up with excitement. They couldn't wait to get their hands on everything, and their energy was contagious. It's truly a special moment to watch them explore the new tools with such curiosity and enthusiasm.\r\n\r\nWhat's Next for Our Students?\r\nNow that we have these wonderful new resources, our next step is to use them for a new project-based learning unit.","fullyFundedDate":1746785984814,"projectUrl":"project/building-bright-minds-in-second-grade/9312335/","projectTitle":"Building Bright Minds in Second Grade","teacherDisplayName":"Ms. Estrada","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp10011913_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1746226656510","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/10011913"},{"teacherId":10011691,"projectId":9310888,"letterContent":"In our 2nd grade classroom, morning bins have become a fun and productive way to start the day. They enjoy designing structures, experimenting with balance, and sharing ideas with one another. These hands-on activities encourage teamwork and creativity, while also developing fine motor skills. The new LEGO robotics materials you helped fund have completely transformed the way my students learn and engage with STEM concepts. These resources have empowered them to build, code, and think like real engineers—all while having fun.\r\n\r\nAs soon as the LEGO robotics kits arrived, my students could hardly contain their excitement. They eagerly unpacked each box, examining the pieces, sensors, and motors with wide eyes and huge smiles. For many of them, it was their first time working with robotics in any form. One student picked up a motor and said, \"We're actually going to make something move? Like a robot?!\" That genuine sense of wonder is exactly what we aim to inspire in the classroom.\r\n\r\nOur first project using the new materials was to design and program simple autonomous robots that could follow a path and avoid obstacles. Students worked in small teams, planning out designs, building their robots, and learning to use the drag-and-drop coding software that controls them. The level of collaboration, problem-solving, and perseverance they showed was incredible. If something didn't work the first time, they'd huddle together to troubleshoot, revise their designs, and test again—just like real engineers.\r\n\r\nThese robotics materials didn't just make our lessons more interactive—they unlocked new teaching opportunities. With the kits, I was able to introduce programming logic, mechanical systems, and design thinking in a way that was accessible and engaging. Students who previously struggled to stay focused during lectures were now leading their groups, guiding peers through coding challenges, and explaining how their robot's sensors worked. It was amazing to see students connect with STEM in such a meaningful and personal way.\r\n\r\nRight now, we're preparing for a classroom robotics showcase, where each team will present their robot and explain the challenge it was designed to solve. Some groups are working on robots that simulate real-world applications—like a trash-sorting robot or a rescue rover that can navigate uneven terrain. The next steps include refining their code, improving mechanical stability, and practicing presentations. These tasks are helping students build not just technical skills, but also confidence, communication abilities, and teamwork.\r\n\r\nBeyond this project, we plan to integrate these materials into future units on automation, sustainability, and innovation. The robotics kits have become a cornerstone of our STEM curriculum, offering endless possibilities for exploration and growth.\r\n\r\nYour support has made all of this possible. By contributing to our classroom, you've given students a chance to see themselves as builders, coders, and creators. You've helped spark curiosity and inspired a new level of engagement in STEM learning. Thank you for giving my students this opportunity to dream bigger and explore the future with their own hands. We can't wait to show you what we build next!","fullyFundedDate":1670458251458,"projectUrl":"project/robotics-materials-needed/6855310/","projectTitle":"Robotics Materials Needed!","teacherDisplayName":"Mr. Butler","teacherPhotoUrl":"https://storage.donorschoose.net/dc_prod/images/teacher/profile/orig/tp8376945_orig.jpg?crop=1:1,smart&width=272&height=272&fit=bounds&auto=webp&t=1661721069718","teacherClassroomUrl":"classroom/8376945"},{"teacherId":8376945,"projectId":6767639,"letterContent":"Thank you so much for supporting our classroom and helping bring our drama club's vision to life! With your generous contribution, we were able to purchase the materials needed to build key pieces for our upcoming school play's set. Your support has made a real difference—not only in how our production looks but in how our students feel about themselves and their abilities.\r\n\r\nAs soon as the materials arrived, there was an immediate buzz of excitement. Students gathered around the boxes, asking questions and offering to help unpack. For many of them, this was their first time using real tools and materials to construct something beyond a classroom project. When they saw the wood, paint, fabric, and other supplies, their eyes lit up with both curiosity and anticipation. One student turned to me and said, \"This is going to look like a real show now!\" That moment alone captured how transformative your support has been.\r\n\r\nOur project involved building several set pieces for our drama club's spring production—everything from a functional doorframe to painted backdrop panels and movable platforms. Students took ownership of the entire process. Working in teams, they measured, sawed, painted, and problem-solved their way through the design and construction. It became more than just building a set; it was a powerful, collaborative learning experience.\r\n\r\nOne especially memorable moment happened when we installed the first finished piece on stage. The students stepped back, looked at what they had built, and cheered. They began imagining scenes taking place right there, and you could feel their sense of pride. For students who often don't feel confident in traditional classroom settings, this project gave them a space to shine. It allowed creativity, teamwork, and hands-on learning to take center stage—literally.\r\n\r\nAs we move forward, we're in the final stages of assembling and decorating the remaining set elements. Students are now refining details: painting final coats, adding textures, and rehearsing with the set in place. These finishing touches are not just about aesthetics—they're part of a larger conversation about how setting and atmosphere shape a story. Our next step will be a full dress rehearsal, where students will see how their hard work supports the actors' performances.\r\n\r\nWe can't wait for opening night when the curtains rise and the entire school community sees the amazing results of your generosity. Because of you, our students are not only putting on a play—they're building confidence, learning new skills, and discovering how capable they truly are.\r\n\r\nThank you again for believing in our classroom and investing in our students' growth and creativity.
